SummaryThe Blow-By clearance tolerance at the handbrake lever fitting may be below than what is stated by the manufacturer, which can lead to slight braking pressure in the front brakes under certain settings (e.g. warm outside temp to warm breaks, etc…) with a slow release of pressure over time. Several conditions must be achieved for this to occur: 1.The FCW (Front Collision Warning) rider assistant system must be activated. 2.The FCW must trigger a warning based on the traffic condition. Moderate pressure must build up in the brake system during this warning trigger. 3.The handbrake lever fitting’s blow by clearance must be below the tolerance level specified by the manufacturer. In some instances, the brake pressure built up by the FCW will not release immediately because the sealing lip in the piston can become blocked by the insufficient blow by clearance and will slowly release the pressure over time. In the cases above, it is always the result of an incorrectly adjusted handbrake lever fitting as the FCW assistance system works correctly and reliably. Only in isolated cases the manufacturer had delivered handbrake lever fittings in which the blow by clearance is set too low. NOTE: The Standard setting of the handbrake lever fitting piston blow by clearance MUST NOT be adjusted, not even to adjust free travel or for assembly of aftermarket accessory levers!!!!! The seal on the locking screw is to prevent manipulation and MUST NOT BE BROKEN. Examples of untampered and tampers fittings are below with an example of the location.

SummaryOn vehicles with optional equipment X22AA “automated shift assistant”, the selector drum may rotate the opposite direction briefly when downshifting in manual mode (‘M’ mode), particularly across transmission position ‘N’ (e.g. when shifting from 2nd gear to 1st gear). In some cases, this opposite rotation is detected as a fault due to overly sensitive component monitoring. The rider receives a corresponding warning message in the instrument cluster; the engaged gear remains engaged. The vehicle goes into a safe driving mode as designed (continue driving at idle speed only). Following turning the motorcycle of and back on again, the fault is reset, and the automated shift assistant function is available again.

SummaryA small quantity of R 1300 GS’s and GS Adventures were assembled with a wiring harness where the relayand its new protective holder were pre-assembled using a safe process by the wiring harness supplier. Theprocess does not cause any damage during assembly. The result being these units are not required to bepart of the current ongoing recall “61 07 24 Recall 24V-557: Replace Starter Relay”. However, these units were produced with a semiconductor style starter relay and we are moving to the newelectromechanical starter relay. As of model year 2025 units in series production at the factory, the conversion to the new styleelectromechanical starter relay will be carried out.

SummaryThe R 1300 GS Adventure is not delivered with engine protection bars mounted as the bike will not fit in thecrate with the protection bars installed. The trim is not mounted on the protection bars. The protection bars and trim will continue to be packaged separately up to the third quarter of 2024. Afterthis time the trim will be mounted on the protection bars and packaged together in the crate. In individual cases, after installing the trim, the trim may come into contact with the welded seam of theengine protection bar on the right-hand side in the rear lower driving position

SummaryMainly sporadic, isolated but also permanent faults occur in the throttle grip sensor, throttle valve, crankshaft signal, camshaft signal, transmission signal, fuel pressure sensor, gear-lever sensor (GearShift Assistant), oxygen sensor and switching cam. These can result in functional impairments andmalfunctions, fault messages and fault memory entries. Besides isolated defective components, the sporadic faults are often mainly caused by contactproblems and increased contact resistances. These can generally occur along the entire signal pathof the respective affected component, but especially at plug connections. In this context, the plugconnection to the engine control unit has emerged as the main focus of the fault. Analyses of defective parts showed that in many cases the passivation (a production coating) of thepins at the plug-in contact (plug connection) of the engine control unit can result in correspondingfaults. A service solution for cleaning the pins has been created which can considerably improvecontact if implemented correctly. In most cases, this means that exchanging expensive componentslike the DME or the wiring harness can be avoided.

SummaryIn some R 1300 GS motorcycles, it has been detected that the rear wheel swingarm has play in theaxial direction. The mounting of the swingarm to the frame is comparable to the F and S model motorcycles. During the mounting of the swingarm axle, this creates different tensions from motorcycle to motorcycle pulling the frame together. Resulting in little to no axial play allowing axial movement on the swingarm axle.
