Kia Achieves Record Sales in First Half of 2026
Kia America has reported its highest-ever June and first-half sales figures for 2026, with 70,507 units sold in June and 430,727 year-to-date. This record performance was driven by strong growth in hybrid and electrified models, along with key SUVs like the Sportage and Telluride.

Kia America has reported its highest-ever June and first-half sales figures for 2026, continuing a trend of strong performance. The automaker sold 70,507 units in June, marking a 10 percent increase over the previous year. Year-to-date, total sales reached 430,727 units, an increase of 3 percent compared to the same period last year, establishing a new Kia sales record for 2026 in the U.S. market.
Record Sales Performance
Kia's strong sales in June were driven by several key models, particularly its hybrid offerings. The Sportage hybrid saw a 165 percent increase in sales, while the Sorento hybrid grew by 114 percent. Other strong performers included the Seltos, which increased by 56 percent, the Carnival hybrid with a 54 percent rise, and the Telluride, up 24 percent compared to June of the previous year. This performance contributed to the overall Kia sales record for 2026.
The growth of electrified models played a crucial role in these results. Hybrid models collectively increased by 187 percent year-over-year in June, contributing to an overall 118 percent increase for Kia's broader electrified lineup. Retail sales also experienced a substantial boost, climbing 17 percent year-over-year, further supporting the brand's record performance for the month.
Electrified Growth and Production Expansion
The momentum for Kia's electrified vehicles extended into the first half of 2026, with hybrid models seeing a 115 percent increase and the overall electrified category growing by 68 percent year-to-date. This sustained demand is leading to expanded production capabilities. The Kia Sportage Hybrid is scheduled to begin production at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America facility in Georgia. This marks a notable development as it will be the first Kia model, the first hybrid electric vehicle, and the third vehicle overall to be assembled at the advanced manufacturing plant.
Looking ahead, Kia plans to further expand its electrified offerings with the upcoming launch of the all-new EV3. This new electric vehicle is expected to contribute to the brand's continued presence in the electric market segment. The company is adjusting its lineup to meet evolving consumer preferences for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electrified options.
Model Lineup Success and Future Outlook
Beyond the strong June figures, Kia's first-half performance saw balanced growth across its diverse lineup. Key models that delivered significant year-over-year gains included the Sportage hybrid, up 136 percent; the Sorento hybrid, with a 34 percent increase; and the Seltos, which grew by 30 percent. The Carnival saw a 21 percent rise, the Telluride increased by 20 percent, the Niro by 17 percent, and the K5 by 11 percent.
In addition to sales achievements, Kia models received industry recognition. The 2027 Telluride X-Pro was named MAMA’s Favorite Family Vehicle by the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA). The 2026 K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo also received the award for MAMA’s Favorite Affordable Vehicle. The full-scale launch of the all-new Seltos in July is anticipated to further support Kia's growth trajectory into the second half of the year, building on the Kia sales record 2026.
These results indicate Kia America's strategy in adapting to market demands, particularly with its growing range of hybrid and electrified vehicles. For consumers, this translates into a wider selection of models, including new electric options and locally produced hybrids, reinforcing Kia's competitive position in the U.S. automotive market.
