American Honda has announced robust sales figures for September and the third quarter of 2026, marking its best September since 2020 and best Q3 since 2019. The company saw a nearly 16% increase in September sales and a 9.3% rise for the third quarter, driven by strong performances from both its Honda and Acura brands.

American Honda's Overall Performance

American Honda's total sales reached 1,149,261 units in the first nine months of 2026, representing a 4.7% increase year-to-date. This performance was bolstered by strong September sales of 121,796 units, up 15.9%, and a third-quarter total of 392,341 units, an increase of 9.3%.

Passenger car sales for American Honda also showed significant gains, achieving their best September since 2023 with a 14.8% increase and their best Q3 since 2020, up 18.4%. These results were achieved despite low inventory levels, with key models having only 16-17 days of supply.

The Honda brand surpassed the 1 million unit mark in September, one month earlier than in 2025, with year-to-date sales up 4.7%. September sales for the Honda brand increased by 17.1% to 111,661 units, while Q3 sales grew by 9.3%.

Honda's hybrid models set a new Q3 record, contributing to the brand's success. The CR-V, including its hybrid variants, achieved new sales records for both September and Q3. CR-V sales were up 21.9% in September with 34,788 units and 16.6% in Q3 with 110,730 units, with hybrid models accounting for 53% of its sales mix. Other strong performers included the Passport, which saw a 19.5% increase in September and its best quarter ever, up 17.9%, with TrailSport trims making up over 80% of its sales. Pilot sales rose 8.8% in September to 9,481 units.

Models like the Odyssey (+66.4%) and Ridgeline (+24.4%) made substantial contributions to September sales. The HR-V also posted double-digit growth of 14.5% in September, reaching 12,445 units and setting a new Q3 sales record despite limited inventory. Honda passenger car sales were up 18.4% in September and 20.9% in Q3, marking their best Q3 since 2020. Civic sales totaled 17,724 units (+8.4%), with Civic hybrid models comprising 35% of the mix. Accord sales increased by 27.7% in September to 16,507 units and were up 32.7% year-to-date, with Accord hybrid trims representing 44% of the sales mix in Q3.

Acura Brand Performance

Acura brand sales increased by 4.4% in September, totaling 10,135 units, and grew by 9.9% in Q3. These figures represent Acura's best September and Q3 since 2023, with the brand surpassing the 100,000 unit mark one month earlier than in 2025.

The gateway models, ADX and Integra, combined for a 24% sales growth in Q3, selling over 14,600 units. The ADX premium crossover reached 25,211 units year-to-date, with Q3 growth of 22% and September sales of 2,701 units, up 20.9%. The Integra continued its momentum, posting a 37.3% increase year-to-date and 27.5% in Q3, exceeding 20,000 units year-to-date.

Acura SUVs demonstrated strong performance, with double-digit growth of 15.5% in September and 17.9% in Q3. The Acura MDX led this segment, marking its seventh consecutive month with over 4,000 units sold, and showing substantial increases of 63.4% in September, 63.5% in Q3, and 25.2% year-to-date.

American Honda's strong September and Q3 2026 sales performance, particularly in hybrid models and SUVs, indicates a robust market presence for both the Honda and Acura brands. Despite ongoing inventory challenges, the company's sales growth positions it favorably as it approaches the end of the year.
