The Audi Nuvolari supercar made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, demonstrating its capabilities on the event's iconic Hillclimb. This appearance marks a significant moment for the near-production prototype, which is set to become the fastest and most powerful production vehicle in Audi's history. The event also featured the first public dynamic display of the historic Auto Union Lucca "Rennlimousine" and test drives of the Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid.
Audi Nuvolari Supercar Takes on Goodwood Hillclimb
Racing legend Tom Kristensen piloted the Audi Nuvolari up the 1.86-kilometer Hillclimb at Goodwood House. The Nuvolari represents Audi's new design philosophy and incorporates advanced technology derived from motorsports, refined for road use. This dynamic showing follows its recent UK debut in London, further building anticipation for its market release.
Kristensen noted the integrated performance of the Nuvolari's systems. These include a new quattro drivetrain, sophisticated vehicle dynamics, optimized aerodynamics, and a robust braking system. The supercar features a high-performance hybrid powertrain, active aerodynamics, and advanced energy management, all contributing to its performance profile.
Production of the Audi Nuvolari will be limited to 499 units globally. Deliveries for this exclusive model are scheduled to commence in the first half of 2027. The Audi Nuvolari Goodwood debut provided a key opportunity for the public to witness its performance ahead of its official launch.
Historic Auto Union Lucca in Motion
Audi Tradition showcased several historic race cars, with a particular highlight being the Auto Union Lucca. This "Rennlimousine," part of the legendary Silver Arrows family, made its first public appearance in motion at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This display honored a significant chapter in motorsports history, specifically the record-breaking drives of the 1930s.
The Auto Union Lucca achieved a notable flying-start mile record in 1935, reaching an average speed of 320.267 km/h. Audi meticulously recreated this vehicle using historical photographs and technical documentation. Its initial unveiling took place in early May in Lucca, Italy, the site of its original record-setting drive.
Modern Audi Sport Showcase
Beyond the Nuvolari and the historic Lucca, Audi also provided test drives of the new Audi RS 5 from Audi Sport on the Goodwood Circuit. This high-performance plug-in hybrid model was displayed alongside its predecessors, the Avant RS2 and the Audi RS 4 Avant, illustrating the evolution of Audi's performance vehicles.
Audi has maintained a partnership with the Goodwood Festival of Speed since 2025, making its presence a consistent feature of the international automotive and motorsports calendar. The comprehensive display at Goodwood demonstrated Audi's capabilities across both contemporary road cars and its rich racing heritage.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed served as a platform for Audi to present its future performance direction with the Nuvolari supercar, while also honoring its past through the Auto Union Lucca. For enthusiasts and prospective owners, the Audi Nuvolari Goodwood debut provided a preview of the brand's upcoming high-performance hybrid technology and design.
