American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced significant sales growth for September and the third quarter of 2026, with overall sales increasing by 15.9% in September and 9.3% for Q3. This performance was largely driven by record hybrid vehicle sales and strong demand across both Honda and Acura brands, despite ongoing inventory challenges for key models.

Overall Performance and Honda Brand Highlights

American Honda's total sales reached 1,149,261 units year-to-date through September, marking a 4.7% increase compared to the previous year. The company's September sales totaled 121,796 units, contributing to a Q3 total of 392,341 units. Passenger car sales for American Honda also saw a boost, achieving their strongest September since 2023 and best Q3 since 2020, with increases of 14.8% and 18.4% respectively.

The Honda brand specifically saw sales rise by 17.1% in September and 9.3% in Q3, pushing its year-to-date sales past the one million mark a month earlier than in 2025. Hybrid models played a crucial role, setting a new all-time Q3 record with over 106,000 units sold. The CR-V, Honda's top-selling model, achieved new sales records for both September and Q3, with its hybrid variants accounting for a significant portion of these sales. The American Honda Q3 2026 sales performance was particularly strong.

Acura's Growth Trajectory

Acura brand sales demonstrated robust growth, increasing by 4.4% in September and 9.9% in Q3. This performance allowed Acura to surpass 100,000 units sold year-to-date, also one month ahead of its 2025 pace. The brand's success was particularly notable in its SUV segment, which recorded its best Q3 performance since 2023 with a 17.9% increase.

Gateway models like the ADX and Integra contributed significantly to Acura's Q3 growth, combining for a 24% increase with over 14,600 units sold. The ADX premium crossover reached 25,211 units year-to-date and saw a 22% increase in Q3. The Integra maintained strong sales momentum, with a 37.3% year-to-date growth and a 27.5% increase in Q3, exceeding 20,000 units year-to-date. Both the ADX and Integra continue to lead their respective segments in retail sales.

Model-Specific Performance Across Brands

Beyond the CR-V, other Honda models also posted strong results. The Passport experienced a 19.5% growth in September and achieved its best quarter ever, with rugged TrailSport trims making up over 80% of its sales. The Pilot recorded an 8.8% increase in September. Honda's light truck sales overall had their strongest September, up 16.5%, and best Q3, up 4.3%, with notable contributions from the Odyssey (+66.4%) and Ridgeline (+24.4%) in September. The HR-V also saw double-digit growth in September (+14.5%), contributing to a new Q3 sales record.

In the passenger car segment, Honda Civic sales reached 17,724 units in September, up 8.4%, with hybrid models representing 35% of the mix. The Accord saw a substantial 27.7% increase in September sales to 16,507 units, and a 32.7% year-to-date growth, with hybrid trims making up 44% of its Q3 sales. For Acura, the MDX SUV continued its strong performance, marking its seventh consecutive month with over 4,000 units sold and achieving significant increases of 63.4% in September, 63.5% in Q3, and 25.2% year-to-date.

These robust sales figures for American Honda, particularly the record performance of hybrid models and strong SUV sales across both the Honda and Acura brands, highlight the company's ability to navigate market conditions. Despite challenges with low inventory, the company's focus on a balanced lineup of passenger cars and light trucks appears to be meeting consumer demand and driving the strong American Honda Q3 2026 sales.
