Symptoms

Owners of affected 2021-2026 Jeep Compass and Renegade vehicles may notice the "Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination" on their dashboard. This warning light indicates a potential issue with the engine or emissions system. Along with the MIL, one or more specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be stored in the vehicle's computer system.

When the Malfunction Indicator Lamp illuminates due to this issue, technicians may find one or more of the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the vehicle's system:

Cause of the Jeep Compass MAP Sensor DTCs

The root cause for these symptoms and the illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp is an incorrectly mounted Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor within the intake air pipe housing. This improper installation can lead to inaccurate readings, triggering the associated DTCs.

Diagnosis and Trigger Conditions

To diagnose the issue, a technician will first check for the presence of the specific DTCs mentioned above. If these codes are present, the next step involves inspecting the MAP sensor. The technician will visually check if the lower base of the MAP sensor is fully flush with its intake air line housing, as shown in Figure 1 of the TSB. If the sensor is not flush, a feeler gauge will be used to measure the distance between the sensor's lower base and the surface of the intake air line, as depicted in Figure 2. If this distance is greater than 1.0 mm (0.03 inches), the TSB's repair procedure applies.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair for the Jeep Compass MAP sensor DTCs involves a straightforward process:

1. DTC Verification: Confirm that one or more of the specified DTCs (P006D, P012C, P012D, P1189, P1190) are set.
2. MAP Sensor Inspection: Visually inspect the MAP sensor to determine if its lower base is flush with the intake air line housing. Figure 1 in the TSB illustrates correct and incorrect flushness.
3. Gap Measurement: If the sensor is not flush, a feeler gauge is used to measure the gap between the MAP sensor and the intake air line. Figure 2 provides visual guidance for this measurement.
4. Sensor Replacement: If the measured gap is greater than 1.0 mm (0.03 inches), the MAP sensor must be replaced. Detailed service procedures for the replacement are available in DealerCONNECT/Service Library under reference 1056B44.

After completing the repair, it is noted that sending DID-I or DID-A documentation is not necessary for this specific TSB.

Required Tools or Parts

Technicians performing this repair will need:

• wiTECH or Equivalent: For diagnostic scanning and DTC verification.
• Feeler Gauge: To accurately measure the gap between the MAP sensor and the intake air line.
• MAP Sensor: Part Number 68476185AA (Mopar 46342571 - South America). This part is also referred to as "Sensor de pressão de admissão / Sensor, MAP."
