2019-2024 Audi A6 Headlamp Washer Jet Not Retracting TSB

Symptoms

Owners of affected Audi vehicles may notice that the headlamp washer nozzle/pressure cylinder does not retract automatically after a wash cycle. This results in the headlamp washer nozzle remaining jammed in the extended position, as shown in Figure 1 of the TSB.

Diagnosis and Trigger Conditions

Audi's TSB 92 23 34 2065982/2 identifies several potential root causes for the headlamp washer jet not retracting:

• Tolerance and Debris: A precise tolerance between the headlamp washer system nozzle cover and the bumper cover aperture can prevent full closure, especially when dirt and debris accumulate in the area.
• Excessive Spring Force: The return spring for the headlamp washer system nozzle cover may exert too much force, preventing the nozzle from retracting properly.
• Physical Interference: There might be physical interference between the headlamp washer system nozzle cover and the bumper cover due to inadequate positioning of the headlamp washer nozzle/pressure cylinder.

Audi notes that production solutions have been implemented to optimize headlamp washer system operation in newer vehicles.

Repair Procedure Summary

If your 2019-2024 Audi A6 headlamp washer jet not retracting issue is duplicated, technicians will perform a series of inspections and repairs on both the left and right sides of the vehicle:

1. Inspect and Trim Cover: The headlamp washer outer cover is removed to inspect for interference with the bumper cover. If interference is found, the technician will carefully trim the interfering area on the cover mechanism to allow free movement (referencing Figure 2 in the TSB).
2. Adjust Nozzle Position: The headlamp washer cylinder's position can be adjusted. This involves loosening the two mounting screws (Figure 3) and rotating the cylinder so the nozzle end points away from the vehicle's centerline, towards the turn signal lamp (Figure 4). The screws are then tightened.
3. Check and Replace Spring Clip: Technicians will check the cover spring clip version. If an older version is installed and the nozzle retracts after relieving pressure, the spring clip may be replaced with an improved version (Figure 5 shows the old version, Figure 6 shows the improved version).

Required Parts

If replacement is necessary, the following part is required:

• Spring clip: Part Number 4K0955339 (Quantity: 2)

Important Warnings

If the nozzle still does not retract after all inspections, adjustments, and repairs outlined in this TSB have been performed, the solution provided in this bulletin will not resolve the problem. It is crucial to note: Do not replace the headlamp washer cylinders as a replacement will not remedy this problem.

This repair is covered under Audi's warranty for up to 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles, the G10 claim type applies. If the vehicle is outside of warranty, this Technical Service Bulletin is for informational purposes only.
