2021-2023 Audi A6 / A7 Console Noise TSB

Audi has issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2063737/2 to address customer complaints regarding squeaking and rattling noises emanating from the front center console area in certain 2021-2023 Audi A6, A7, S6, S7, A6 allroad, A7 e, RS 6 Avant, and RS 7 vehicles. This TSB supersedes an earlier bulletin, Group 68 number 21-34, dated June 21, 2021, with revisions to include additional model years.

This bulletin provides a detailed repair procedure to eliminate the annoying Audi A6 console noise by resolving a physical contact issue within the console assembly.

Symptoms

Owners of affected Audi models may notice squeaking and rattling noises specifically from the area of the lower MMI display in the front center console. These noises are often reported to occur under specific conditions.

Customers typically observe the Audi A6 console noise when the driver's or passenger's knee leans against the center console. The noises can also be triggered when the lower MMI display provides haptic feedback, indicating a physical interaction causing the sound.

Diagnosis

Workshop findings indicate that the root cause of the squeaking and rattling is hard contact between the lower MMI display and the front center console insert/trim. This contact is attributed to tight assembly tolerances within the vehicle's interior components.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair outlined in Audi TSB 2063737/2 involves creating additional clearance between the lower MMI display and the console trim. The procedure is as follows:

1. A technician will first inspect the gap between the lower MMI display and the center console insert/trim on both sides to identify the exact point of contact.
2. The lower MMI display is then carefully removed from the vehicle, following the repair manual instructions available in Elsa.
3. A strip of felt tape, approximately 3/4 x 3/8 inches, is applied. This tape is placed between the rib of the display mount and the trim frame on the side where contact was observed (as illustrated in Figure 2 of the TSB). The felt tape acts as a cushion to increase the gap.
4. All removed parts are then reinstalled.
5. The gap between the lower MMI display and the center console insert/trim is re-checked to ensure sufficient clearance.
6. Finally, the vehicle is test driven to verify that the repair has successfully eliminated the squeaking and rattling noises.
