I was hit in head by rear hatch that closed unexpectedly. I am 81 years old and do not need this. I reported to Volvo. I am not the only one having this problem. Dangerous. These cars are supposed to be safe.

AIR BAGS
This vehicle recently started experiencing a peeling dashboard on the passenger side immediately near/on the airbag region. This peeling has caused the upholstered leather to come apart from the underpinning of the dashboard and is now a safety issue. There is concern that the passenger side airbag system will not work as intended given the delamination on the dashboard. After some Googling, this was apparently a known issue that Volvo knew about as early as 2017 through 2020. They issued at least two verifiable Technical Journals (TJ 29012.6.0 and TJ 29012.5.0) and requested that anyone with this issue bring it to their dealership for replacement. However, after contacting the dealership and Volvo North America, I was told that they would not be fixing this safety issue.

Volvo had an over the air update for all cars with the Google UI. Recently my speakers and other electrical components have been having issues. I took the car to the dealership for evaluation since it's under warranty. The dealer said the issue is a known software issue that started a couple months ago. The only software change my vehicle has had has been the OTA update. Now Volvo is charging to fix the issue even though they introduced it in their own update.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The infotainment will randomly overheat and a system warning will come on that begins cooling the cluster by turning on the air vents. I have taken the vehicle to Volvo several times to address the issue and they do a software update but the problem returns within a few weeks. The safety sensors will also randomly turn off while driving. I have contacted Volvo several times to no avail. My local dealer has chosen to stop seeing my vehicle and now I have a malfunctioning car and now having to find another dealer will result in lost work time.

During the rainy season, moisture found its way inside the right passenger real tail light, causing a “brake malfunction” error on the dash and deactivating the passenger rear brake light. After the moisture dries, the light comes back on but is intermittent. The light continues to malfunction during rainfall. This is a huge safety concern as there is no way to reset the system to turn on the brake light, unless the moisture dries.

Automatic tailgate door, which was open for loading, randomly came down and struck me in the head. Door did not retract on contact but continued downward. No one was in vehicle. Neither keyfob or button were touched. I'm on blood thinners, this was a dangerous head injury. Could be extremely dangerous for children. This is second time this happened, but previously the door didnt hit me, I jumped back. This time, I was leaning in to load items. Again, I was just placing items in back. I was alone. Purse was in cart. There was no way any button on car or fob was pushed to close door. It closed on its own. Very dangerous!

When it rains, I receive a warning that the rear position lights are failed. The left tail light stops working and I'm without a signal and brake lamp. This issue resolved its self when it's had time to dry, usually within two to three days.

The 2017 trim leather dash panel cover peals significantly on the upper side and front side facing passenger. This may affect the airbag expensing by interfering with parts of the dash panel and could also introduce second harm in cases of these components flying out in high speed.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Gaps in the sunroof seal caused water to drain from the sunroof to the interior, electrical panel, firewall panel of the car and batteries. All electrical components are damaged because of the water. My car died on a very busy road on Dec. 31, 2024. It is an extremely dangerous rd. I could not leave the vehicle because my special needs son was with me and scared to get out. The car was looked at by the Volvo dealer service manger where we bought the car in Oct., 2023 and has confirmed all damages caused by a deteriorating sunroof seal. ( 2020 model) insurance is planning to look at it but because of the water damage in the interior, the car interior needs to be stripped to check for other damage, corrosion. Warning lights came on a few seconds before the car stopped/ died so there was no time to get to a safe place. Police were on the scene and had to have the car towed out of the way of traffic.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Rear Position Light Malfunction on my 2018 Volvo V90 CC. The winter finally came yesterday and it rained the whole night. After I started the car in the following morning and drove for around 2 minutes, the warning popped up. I found out the rear position light of the whole left side doesn’t work, included the position light on the tailgate. But so far, every light works well except the position light. I tried to restarted the car, the warning didn’t pop up and the left position light worked for a while like 1 minute, then the warning came out again and the position light was back to off. So right now it’s so risky to drive at night or on bad weathers because other cars follows me can only see one side of the position light, makes them hard to see my whole rear part. I may need to take the car to the dealer soon.

1. When my tailgate is open on multiple (more than 8?9? 10 times out of nowhere it will start to come down without my prompting It has hit me on my shoulder multiple times and I jump out of the way while it continues to shut. Most recently, it came down quick and hit my head. Luckily I got out of the way. Yet it wasn't fast enough because this time the tailgate hit it hard giving me a headache and then bothered my neck later. I have gone to Volvo and they say nothing is wrong with it. They say that is the feature of swinging you foot under the bumper and I know that. I didn't do that though. I never let my grand-kids sit in the back "tailgating after skiing" because of the potential danger of it coming down. It doesn't get triggered to stop or go up but rather continues its descent. Super dangerous. Perhaps it needs a new sensor? Many times I think I should sell this car and see about something safer. Which is a wild idea considering Volvo is supposed to be quite safe. I had an old model xc70 wagon LOVED it. The tailgate was wide and perfect for sitting with the tailgate up after a hard day of skiing. I have never been able to do this with is newer design that has a tailgate which is unpredictable. Please advise. Thank you. 2. The blind spot on the drivers side hasn't worked. On the passenger's side it works fine. When asked approximate dates? well multiple times-frequently but I will say the most recent was July 3, 2024 for the tailgate I was the only hurt. Monday July 8th, 2024 I will see a chiropractor for my neck. As for the faulty blind spot warning? That happens most days, everyday. Thankfully I am a defensive driver and have yet to have an accident as a result of that.

Volvo updated their infotainment computer system and it is not functioning properly. A "hard reset" is required to make it work; included in the issues is heat and air; seat activation and entertainment functions. They do not have a date in which issues will be resolved. My vehicle has been to the dealer 2x for repairs and yesterday I was informed they don't know when it will be fixed. SAFETY issues is trying to adjust and or correct system while driving; air conditioning etc.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
I ordered this vehicle brand new in October 2022. I took delivery May 1, 2023. The problem presented itself instantly the first moment I drove the car at night. On low beams, the headlights project a very large "V" that is cut out of the upper left hand corner of the projected headlight beam. This creates a very distracting and absolutely very dangerous driving condition. The easiest way to explain this is as follows: 1) in foggy conditions, the headlights cast a triangular voided area into the foggy road ahead and the voided out area will move all over the place if you turn on the headlight turning feature. 2) in normal night conditions there is a constant voided out area in the upper left hand corner of the light beam. 3) when driving up hill at nighttime, the headlight beam will aim lower because of the fact you the car is accelerating uphill, when this occurs the voided out area I talk of gets exponentially larger and becomes not only violently dangerous, it is crazy anoying and distracting. The car can be seen anytime at my personal address. The problem has been reproduced at Alan Byer Volvo in Syracuse NY. They have a video of it and have told me that because the car is produced in such small volume they have no way of comparing it to another vehicle and therefore are unable to help me. There are no warning lamps that have ever come up on the car which now has 9500 miles on it.

Sunday, May 14, 2023 - 2:30pm Car reports "Brake Failure - Stop Safely" Driver does so, and-- -Parking Brake Sets -Car will not come out of Park -Engine can not be turned off -Rear lift gate cannot be opened by any means First attempt at a tow fails – parking brake locked [XXX] arrives at site at about 6:45 pm. I observe the following: -Car is running, engine cannot be turned off. -Shift lever cannot be moved out of park. -Parking brake cannot be released -Tailgate cannot be opened by any means. -Brake Warning light is on among others. -Brake Pedal has adequate pressure. After attending to parents as this is 4.5 hours at this point of VOC saying help is on the way…. I open the hood and the engine compartment fuse box per a not I found by a credible person on Swedespeed, I pull fuse #38 out and give it 3-4 minutes before replacing it. At which point: -Rear liftgate become operational. -Car will come out of park -Emergency brake releases -ABS error no longer dominates dash screen but other lights remain. My car has a Google system which fails to operate correctly & needs many system reboots.I've presented the shut problem to the service dept, I'm told they don't know what to tell me because they can't recreate the problem or the car's system is like phones, it freezes at times & needs to be rebooted, Volvo is constantly doing softwhere updates.Nov 14 I was driving on the highway w/the heat & wipers on. It was raining lightly. In a matter of seconds my side front windows fogged up & then the windshield completely did too. I tried to turned on my defroster but it didn't work.The system was frozen again.I quickly wiped in front of me so I could see where I was going, but I couldn't keep up.The fog just kept covering the windshield.I was in the middle lane going 65 miles hr. I took my foot off the gas & opened my window.I put my blinker on & tried to move over to the side of the road.People were beeping at me & all I could see was out the side window.As I got close to the side of the road I almost smashed into the large exit sign.I was driving almost blind.I called my son asking him how to reboot the system.He worked for the car place.I had to shut the system down & reboot.When it came back up the defroster came on clearing the windshield/windows immediately.I went to the dealership, told them what happened, how I almost had a catastrophic accident, I don't feel safe in the vehicle, Ive been complaining about multiple problems & I want out of my lease.The manager asked me questions, if my air-conditioning button was on which it was & told me again how the Google system in the car is like phones & needs to be rebooted, they are working on software updates & offered to make my next 2 car payments for me for my inconvenience! I went back to the car place the next day bc my cruise control only works intermittently I wasn't going to report it. the service manager told me there is no reason to have my defroster off.I made another appt for service.I don't feel safe in this ca

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN
I was at a stop street in Toledo and was pulling out onto a four lane street. I pressed the accelerator and the car crept slowly onto the street for about two or three seconds and the surged to about 3000 rpms and 20-25 mph. This has happened repeatedly an on occasion the delay has been 4-5 seconds. The dealership denies that there is a problem and refuses to repair the car.
