I am writing because VW has been unable to fix the recalls associated with my car. The earliest they say they can fix the major recall associated with the car battery is December 2024. This is unacceptable and I hoping the NHTSA can put pressure on VW to fix this problem.

9/13/23 Got into my vehicle to head home around 9:15PM , headlights would not turn on. Tried switching from automatic to manual turn on no success. Could not unlock passenger doors from drivers side switch, had to exit car with key to unlock doors. There was a warning on the cluster above the steering wheel that says “ WARNINGS AND INFORMATION NOT AVAILABLE. DRIVE WITH GREATER CARE! Mileage would not display. There was yellow triangle showing service, inspection overdue with mileage of 62546. Car was bought July 2023 and has less than 800 miles. Car shows now on the information display under status more than 61K added at the failure

Unknown - The day after purchasing the vehicle, and less than 24hrs and 50 miles on the vehicle, I attempted to start it and all the warning lights immediately went on. The vehicle subsequently locked me out and I was unable to gain entry into the vehicle. The car was towed to the dealership and has been with the dealership for 2 weeks. VW America is apparently sending engineers to look at the vehicle to determine what happened.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Two days ago I was pulling into a parking spot in a shopping center. The car suddenly accelerated forward and I hit a concrete parking block. This is the third time over the past 7 months that this has occurred, where the car suddenly accelerates when in a low speed. After the first time it happened, I called the dealership to ask if any other customers had this issue, but they said no. For them to run a diagnostic on it, they would have to recreate what had occurred. We all know that is impossible. So I ignored it, as it did not happen again until three months later. Then once again two days ago.

My VW id4 2021 has been recalled for High Voltage battery issues. My local dealer, FLOW vw of Asheville NC cannot perform the work as they do not have a certified technician. The closest tech I can find is in Bristol TN. VW will only tow my car to the closest dealer, FLOW in Asheville. Should VW be responsible to get my car to a dealer that can perform this work? This is a new vehicle used for less than 2 weeks. It has under 250 miles on it. The vehicle looses power and displays the following warning messages: “Error: Drive System. Please safely stop vehicle!” and “Electrical System not working correctly. Please service your vehicle” I was in a very unsafe situation without power but luckily was able to guide the car over to the side of the road with the momentum it had. The vehicle has been at the dealer since that event which has been 6 days now. Still no word on if / when it will be fixed.

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
While traveling at highway speeds I suddenly got multiple warnings of the parking brake becoming inoperative, Auto Hold Error, and Travel Assist and Cruise Control no longer available. When trying to park the vehicle's parking brake would not engage and a loud warning sound and red warning message with "Do not park vehicle on an incline" came up on the dash. The vehicle was not able to be parked on any surface without it potentially rolling away. When trying to take the car into the dealership on Monday, 9/11/2023 the vehicle would not move out of "Park" and had be dragged out of the garage it was parked in.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I was slowly pulling into a parking space at the beach. Pulling into the space the car accelerated, fast. It crashed in to the two cement barriers at front of parking space. I heard the air hissing out of the right front passenger tire, as it deflated. The front of the car was badly damaged from the crash into the barriers. Luckily no one was injured or killed. This is the second acceleration problem we have experiencd. In May I had a deacceleration issue with this car. I was crossing traffic and when I pressed on the accelerator, it very slowly moved, not letting me accelerate. I was worried about the on coming traffic hitting me, but luckily they just honked and went around. Moments later Iaccelerated and the car worked normally again. We took it to the VW shop and they said they didn't find anything. That they "reset it". It had worked normally until today. The system that malfunctioned was the speed control. My safety and anyone around me was put at risk, by having a car accelerating when I didn't want it to. It's a Sunday, so don't know dealers response yet. Contacted insurance, police and will contact VW on Monday. No warning messages.

While driving approximately 35 mph, there was a "thunk". I thought I was hit from behind, but there were no cars or debris around. The dash lit up with multiple warning lights and the car lost all drive power. If this had happened on freeway it could have had a major accident. Car was towed to dealer who said there was an internal battery failure they couldn't work on. Volkswagen then made me pay for a second tow to another dealer. I am currently without the car or further reports.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while his wife was opening the driver's side rear door, she was shocked by an electrical discharge. The contact stated that his wife's hand hurt for several days, however she was not burned by the discharge. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

SERVICE BRAKES
This car was marketed as an easy transition from gasoline powered engines, meaning its braking maneuvers should not have been largely different. However the 2021 electric did not come with auto hold which VW later determined should be added for brake safety reasons. In 2022 VW had a software upgrade and as of Sept. 2023 it has yet to be installed for me. However any update was already too late for me. In Nov. 2021 this scenario happened: I pulled up to my garage and realized the car was not aligned with the garage door so (after braking and bringing the car to a full stop) I chose "R" to proceed with the slight correction. I did not touch the accelerator but the car careened backwards down driveway and impaled itself on a large landscape rock (which stopped the descent). I just missed hitting a telephone pole and/or landing crosswise in the street at the bottom of my driveway. The incline was not steep but the backward momentum was great. I could have been severely injured but luckily only the car sustained heavy damage!

UNKNOWN All LCD screens would not display an image including the one that displays the speed at which the vehicle is traveling. The only difference from normal was the car sitting in the sun for a few hours and the back of the LCDs being hot to the touch. Was able to remedy by running the AC on Lo with the car empty for about 20 minutes. The car did not have a visible speedometer or anything else available on that screen. There bottom row of icons did display on start up and did not show any errors. However I would say that it is a fairly big issue not knowing the speed you are going. I have seen on a VW ID forum other people having had this issue. Vehicle has a service appointment August 31 for this issue. Not yet for replication or inspection. There was no warning to these issues. I just got in the car after work and the screens did not come on and I did try restarting them vehicle twice. Attached photo is of the car on where it shows no display. I also have a video I will show the dealer tomorrow.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, STEERING
The steering wheel controls on our 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 are haptic. That means that if you brush them with your fingers or hand with light pressure, they can activate. When leaving a neighborhood street, I turned the steering wheel approximately 180 degrees to pull out from a parking spot next to the curb. Upon releasing my grip a bit on the steering wheel (to let it rotate back to 'straight') my right thumb grazed the cruise control activation button (which is normally on the left side of the steering wheel). Since I had been using cruise control earlier in the drive, the cruise control resumed and the car accelerated without my providing any pedal input. Luckily I realized what had happened and pushed the brake pedal to cancel cruise control. The cruise control was set to 15 mph. I am thankful it was not set to something higher, like 65 mph. I don't know how fast the car would have accelerated in that case.

The two front wheels are chipping off. My vehicle is only less than a year old. I am not the only ID4 owner who is experiencing these issues. A lot of us in Facebook ID4 owners have these issues. We think that because the ID4 is heavy due to battery cells, the front wheels cannot handle the weight of the vehicle. My milage is 12,200 miles in my car

P 235 / 55 R 19 105T XL Front Tires chipping off. My car is less 11 months old with 12,200 miles on it. I live in suburbs in Dallas TX and use highways and side roads made of smooth asphalt. A lot of ID.4 VW owners have encountered these problems. I bought my car brand new

The dealer has not informed me about an open recall stating that the car door handles can open at a certain speed. This recall was filed since 05/05/2023, but the necessary parts to address the problem are still unavailable. I became aware of this issue through an email from Progressive Insurance. Despite my car undergoing service for three other recalls at Deel Volkswagen in Coral Gables, Miami, FL (where I purchased the car), they never notified me about this problem. Even after three separate visits, each lasting three weeks, this issue was never addressed. I already escalated the matter to Volkswagen Corporation and the customer care department a month ago, but I'm still awaiting a response. The car is not functioning properly, and the doors frequently get stuck, making it extremely challenging to enter or exit the vehicle.
