Rear back-up camera fails repeatedly. The image portrayed on the dash is garbled and I am unable to determine vehicles, obstacles or persons behind me when backing. Problem is very reproducible although the dealer has not diagnosed the problem. The car is out of warranty. The only message displayed on the screen is something like "Park Pilot error".

I had fuel leaking from my carbon canister. I was driving the previous day and noticed a gasoline smell. I thought it was something I ran over. The next day, while performing errands, I noticed the smell even more. Then I exited the vehicle to see the fuel pouring out of the car. The dealership has it now.

Travel Assist is disabled which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. This happens at any and all speeds. From what I've heard this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. My steering wheel was already replaced once for a different issue. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern.

Fuel is leaking from near the gas tank when the car is running and creates a puddle- I took my car to the local VW dealership in February to get the Suction Jet Pump Recall completed.

The front collision brake assist goes on when there is no obstacle. It has given me obstacle warnings before, but this time it slammed on the brakes and brought me to a stop. This "safety" feature is going to get me rear ended. I have not taken it to a dealer because internet search shows me it is a widespread problem for which there is no fix. I would like it permanently disabled.

I was driving on the highway, and heard a quiet sound like someone sprinkling sand on my windshield for about 10 seconds. All of a sudden, the sun roof burst and shattered with a loud pop. Luckily the internal slide-able screen webbing kept the glass from entering the compartment (except a bit of glass dust and small shards). I never heard a rock hit, or any other cause. I believe the ‘sand sprinkling’ sound was the ‘spider web’ cracks spreading prior to the burst. Obviously that is extremely dangerous while driving on the highway. If it wasn’t for the internal screen keeping the glass off me, it could have been much worse. I was able to pull off the highway and temporarily secure the glass with some cardboard and packing tape.

Acquired this vehicle at 6,800 miles. At about 10k miles the clutch went out and had to be replaced. This should have been the stock clutch system. I was able to examine the old clutch kit. It was determined that the disk was damaged due to overheating, the throw out bearing had cracked in pieces, and the fly wheel had signs of overheating as well. I then replaced it with an aftermarket kit from ECS Tuning. The whole kit was replaced and a OEM throw out bearing was replaced. Turns out the kit didn't work well with my vehicle and burned out at about 2k miles later. Then I replaced the clutch kit once again, this time with OEM SACHS clutch kit [throw out bearing, clutch disk, pressure plate, fly wheel] which I was told this vehicle comes with this kit from the factory. Now, that was at about 18,800 miles, so about 6k miles on this kit, I am starting to notice some signs of defectiveness once again. Could there be an issue that hasn't been addressed with the proper kit or is there a need for a recall....

Manual transmission car. Hill hold brake assist feature is dangerous and can be fixed with software update. This is truly dangerous. When stopped on an incline, the brakes automatically engage when stopped and hold the car from rolling backwards which might occur if the driver did not know how to drive a manual transmission car. When driver takes foot off of brake pedal, the brake fails to release !! It hold for 2-3 additional seconds before it will allow the car to move, causing car to stall when engaging the clutch into gear. 50 years experience driving manual transmission cars - this defect is diabolical and patently unsafe. My last VW had a hill hold feature which released in concert with engaging clutch, so no stalls. This is fixable with software update! Please force VW to fix their dangerously defective car. This occurs ALL OF THE TIME and is not an isolated incident to my car - it is a design defect wreaking havoc with all GTI manual transmission owners of the Mark VIII iteration. It is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

The Travel Assist and SOS are not available error chime is a problem that many drivers experience with VW. For my most recent drive, the error chimed and distracted me for the whole duration of my trip and it causes unnecessary stress when driving

Hill hold assist takes exactly three seconds to release automatically. However, this has resulted in drivers behind to almost hit me as my vehicle cannot move forward even after depressing thr clutch and pressing the throttle. This has resulted in several near collisions. VW refuses to address this safety concern.

The hill assist feature does not let go of the brakes when I apply throttle and has caused me to stall the vehicle on a hill multiple times. I would request a recall be made to allow the driver to not have the brakes engaged when throttle is applied when starting from a stop on a hill with manual transmission equipped gti's/golf r's.

The automatic “hill assist” is dangerous in that it makes it easy to stall your car when trying to use your manual transmission. It’s unintuitive and truly frustrating and can cause you to stall your car when you are pulling into traffic. The previous implementation of this on the Mk7 VW GTI’s worked well but VW made this way too intrusive and complicated - and dangerous - on the Mk8 VW GTI’s. There is no option to disabled it or change the behavior.

22 days after purchasing, the sunroof blew up & shattered while driving. Produced a loud bang and shattered upwards. Volkswagen has declined warranty fix. There where no vehicles in front or behind me nor, was I going in an underpass. Nothing impacted the glass sunroof, it just exploded upwards.

DSG automatic transmission started going into neutral at various speeds and driving conditions. It feels as though the clutch disengages momentarily, causing the vehicle to slow down and engine to rev. This is definitely not safe when trying to merge or drive on the highway. This is a know issue with VW DSG transmissions and warranted a safety recall on earlier vehicles. My vehicle is newer than the recall so VW has no obligation to help me. They inspected the car and told me it needed a transmission replacement, but that the transmission is no longer produced or available. I would need to source a used transmission and try my luck. It is unacceptable that VW has no liability in this issue that is known, common and a real safety issue.

The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen GTI SE. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V110000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). The contact lives in Hawaii. However, there are no Volkswagen dealers on the island. The contact was told by the manufacturer that the recall repairs would need to be done by a dealer. It was suggested that the vehicle be shipped to O'ahu at the contact's expense. The contact stated that the manufacturer did not offer any assistance when asked if a local independent mechanic could repair the vehicle. The contact had not experienced a failure.

During moderate braking, the ABS system was violently pulsing the brakes on the left front wheel. This occured on about one dozen braking events over a 5-7 mile distance. Afterwards upon inspection, the left front brake smelled and radiated intense amounts of heat. There were no Warning Lights displayed at any time during or after. The tires, original equipment size, are almost brand new. All tires were at recommended air pressure. A Volkswagen dealer will inspect the vehicle today. The ABS hydraulic assembly is suspect. The vehicle has 46,000 miles and has had its brake fluid replaced in the past as part of normal recommended service.

The 8th generation of the VW Golf (and 7th generation Jetta) has a dangerous Hill Start Assist for manual transmission cars that cannot be disabled. When stopped on an incline, the car holds the brakes after the driver removes their foot from the pedal for a variable amount of time (upwards of 2 seconds), which was originally designed to help start on steep inclines. This is dangerous for a number of reasons. The first is that it's impossible to gauge when the car will release the brakes, so it will always roll backwards. The reaction of the driver to rolling backwards, instead of timing the movement from brakes to accelerator is much more difficult and often causes more delays due to stalling. The second is that the driver has no visibility to a sensor or light for this mechanism, making it very unpredictable. Lastly, drivers behind the vehicle see the brake lights go off when the driver lifts their foot, but the car is unable to move for multiple seconds, which causes more risk of injury, accident, and overall traffic.
