By browsing through any forum it is evident the VW Arteon has a reoccurring issue with the vehicle suddenly turning off ACC due to an issue with the vehicles travel assistance systems. Repairs forced to be made by the consumer includes multiple steering wheel changes sensor replacements and other things all occurring in under 3-4 years and under 30k miles of purchase

Sudden loss of tire pressure on interstate highway in heavy traffic at 70 miles per hour. This created a safety hazard to control the car and try to move to the shoulder of the road without a collision. The tires are factory 245/35/R20 Continental ProContact with 8/32 tread remaining. Tires have 13,600 miles and the air pressure was at factory specs of 42 pounds cold. There is no visible damage to the tire or rim. The tire will no longer seal to the rim causing loss of air. All service has been performed at the VW dealer. This is the second tire failure; the first at 400 miles.

I need a switch that goes in the steering column. This switch controls auto start/stop, cruise control, lane keeping assist, front pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control and much more. This switch is currently not available and has been unavailable for purchase for well over a month. I feel that I am not driving a safe vehicle and that because my vehicle was low volume car there is very little concern from VW to get this part produced.

Date: March 9, 2026 FORMAL COMPLAINT: Safety Concern Regarding Unintended Acceleration** Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2021 Volkswagen Arteon VIN: [XXX] Purchased From: Clay Cooley Volkswagen (October 2024) To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a series of escalating electrical and mechanical failures regarding my 2021 Volkswagen Arteon. While the vehicle initially presented minor electrical glitches, the situation has recently devolved into a severe safety hazard that puts my life, and the lives of others, at risk. Timeline of Issues: Since my purchase in October 2024, I have experienced the following: * Infotainment Failure: The radio display frequently fails to render images or remains unresponsive. * Key Recognition Issues: The vehicle intermittently fails to recognize the key fob is present, leading to ignition delays. * Unintended Acceleration: Most critically, as of today, [XXX], the vehicle has spontaneously accelerated three times immediately upon being shifted from Park into Drive, without any input on the accelerator pedal. Urgent Safety Request The sudden, unexpected acceleration is a catastrophic failure of the vehicle's drive system. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle, nor do I feel comfortable allowing my family to use it. This is a critical liability that must be addressed before an accident results in property damage, injury, or loss of life. I am requesting an immediate investigation into these malfunctions. I expect a prompt response regarding: 1. A safe method for transporting the vehicle to a certified technician (towing). 2. A comprehensive diagnostic review of the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and throttle assembly. 3. Several of the tires showing delamination according to the dealership. Extremely hazardous to drive on tires as is. Manufacturer (Continental) advised me on 9/25/2025 they would replace 5 tires (car purchased new, came with full size spare). Continental representative give me their contact information and stated that they would have to deal directly with the dealership in order to complete the process. Dealership is stating to me at this point I will have to purchase the tires, the manufacturer will reimburse used them and they in turn will reimburse me. The dealer is in possession of my vehicle since Friday, 9/26/25 because they told me Ithe vehicle had to be on their premises before they could initiate the work order. Additionally on the evening of 9/26/25, the dealership personnel left the sunroof of my car fully open, there was a downpour of rain for several hours, causing water to enter the car (what the damages are as a result has not been relayed to me nor has the dealership order the tires to replace the defective ones.

Tire is 245/35 R 20. Tire sidewall blew out on a small bump/pothole at less than 15mph, losing all pressure and forcing to be towed. These are OEM tires with less than 2500 miles on them. Model is on backorder, so all new tires for vehicle had to be replaced. These tires are a known issue for the VW Arteon and customers are forced to pay for replacements at significant cost to "upgrade" to safer more well-built tires.

STEERING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look in steering panel and not paying attention on the road,

The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen Arteon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 18 to 23 MPH, there was a loud clanking noise coming from the engine. The air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

This tire model, Continental ProContact TX 245/35 R 20 95H, is the tire that came with my brand new 2023 Arteon and appears to be the overall stock tire VW went with. I had read in media forums that the tires blow out very easily when running over a pothole and it turns out, they were correct. I have now had 3 tires blow out due to potholes in just 7 months of owning my car. All punctures occurred on the wall of the tire resulting in necessary full tire replacements costing about $320 each tire. Although 2 were the result of hitting the same pothole in the night rain, resulting in getting towed from the side of the freeway, I've luckily been able to walk away from the situations safely. I now drive with the habit of overly scanning the road ahead of me, swerving every pothole, big or small to prevent another blowout.

The sidewall of tire failed after brushing up against an uneven section of pavement at low speed (5-10mph) as I was making a right hand turn onto a busy road. The low tire pressure light almost immediately illuminated. I had purcahsed the vehicle only 10 days prior with 4,169 miles on it. The previous owner also had a tire failure around 3,000 according to the vehicle's CarFax report. Numerous other Arteon owners have reported higher than typical tire failures with this original tire 245/35R20. It seems the sidewall is exceptionally fragile. Out of fear this would happen again anyday, I immediately ordered and replaced all 5 tires with a known quality tire. In 17 years of driving vehicles with low profile tires, I have never had a failure nor have I seen so many examples of failure in the vehicle's community that I was a part of.

Drove through a very small pothole at about 5mph and the sidewall gave out creating a small pin hole and leaked out all the air. This is a known issue across all the forums and Facebook groups for this tire. People are going through tires like crazy because of sidewall failures.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
This defect causes multiple, non-periodic, but repeated, "Travel assist unavailable" audible and visual alarms at seemingly unrelated and unpredictable times while driving. My favorite times are when you start making a turn after coming to a full stop and it alarms, asking you to take your eyes off the road and look at the dash. There is no way to turn the alarm off. It occurs even if you have the feature it is alarming about disabled or turned off. When the alarm triggers, the display has multiple yellow icons and frequently a large text/graphic in the middle of the digital cockpit. It can be extremely distracting. Apparently the fix is to replace the steering wheel. The steering wheel is on backorder for over four months now.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
After the vehicle has been sitting for some time, it will repeatedly beep and display “travel assist not available” with a warning triangle. It seems to be steering wheel related. It does not do it sitting still, only while moving. This happens every morning for the first few minutes of driving - often for several miles, and is getting worse. Today, it happened over 10 times within a 1 mile drive. Started as rare and sporadic happenings about two months ago, now is nearly every time I start up and drive the car.

Tire info: Continental Procontact Size: 245 / 35 R 20 I was driving on city streets at normal speed during a rainy day. I turned right from one road to another road, and as I started to accelerate out of the right turn, my driver side front tire blew out and the TPMS started screaming because it read the tire pressure as 0. I immediately pulled over and checked the tire and saw a huge gash on the side wall, close to the rim. The road I was on was not pristine or super smooth, but it did NOT have any large bumps or potholes and I wasn't going that fast to begin with. I have only had this car for a couple of months and it only has approximately 1,000 miles on it. If this had happened at highway speeds I think it would have been much more dangerous. I had to call roadside assistance to change the tire for me. The tire that blew out is completely unusable now and the wheel is also damaged, presumably because I had to drive it a short distance so I could park safely and have the tire change in a safe spot. The tires are the factory default that came with the brand-new car. I should note that AFTER this incident, I went home and started researching online and very easily saw that there are MANY VW Arteon owners whose cars with the same 20" Continental tires have also been experiencing blowouts, often multiple times and for no good reason, and have not been able to get any meaningful response from VW or Continental. So this is not an isolated problem and I believe the government should investigate and make the companies do right by their customers affected by this safety defect in their products.

Was switching out the "summer" tires for winter tires and noticed a bubble on the sidewall of the passenger front tire. At the time the car had around 3,000 miles on it. I switched to my spare tire, did not put the bubbled tire back on the car. I had traveled who knows how many miles with that tire like that. If I would have had a blow out, which would have happened at some point it would have been dangerous for me and any vehicle around me. It would have also destroyed a $700 rim, which I would have had to pay for. I replaced all 5 tires with new ones and the bubbled tire was disposed of, but I do have a picture. Cost of 5 new tires was $1600, since Dealer would not help out. Dealer denied and tire failures but mentioned that if they owned those tires they would switch them immediately. Discount tire inspected the tire and said that it was not in good shape. There were no prior symptoms to the bubble.
