Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Prius Prime, 2023-2026 Prius, and 2025-2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. Water may enter the rear door switch and cause a short circuit, allowing an unlocked rear door to open unexpectedly.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The design and engineering of this vehicle is defective. All of the vehicles on the road need to be recalled. The outside an inside edges of the tire wear at an extreme rate which will result entire failure, collision, and eventually fatalities. I own two 2024 Prius prime XLE premiums, and I have read online and everyone is having this problem. The torque is so extreme that even the new vehicles cannot maintain alignment. The wheel and tire combination from the factory is simply not suitable for the weight and power of the vehicle.

Description of Safety Defect: I am reporting an uncorrected factory design defect in the 5th-generation Toyota Prius (2024 model) that constitutes an immediate and ongoing daytime driving hazard. Under standard operation, whenever the vehicle's headlights are activated during daytime hours—conditions legally mandated by Massachusetts state law, such as during rain, heavy fog, snow, dusk, or dawn—the driver's 7-inch Multi-Information Display (MID) speedometer cluster and the central multimedia touchscreen plunge into an aggressive, low-brightness night profile. When this occurs in daylight ambient environments, heavy glare can completely wash out both digital screens, rendering the speedometer, safety alerts, warning lights, and navigation maps illegible to the driver. Manufacturer Response: The vehicle's digital 'Day Mode' software toggles and the lower-dash manual instrument panel adjustment buttons completely fail to override or un-dim this behavior when headlights are active. System reboots and ambient sensor inspections do not change the state. I have formally presented this vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealership and directly escalated the issue to Toyota Motor Sales Corporate. Both parties have officially stated that the vehicle is 'operating as designed' and refused to issue a technical remedy or calibration update. Safety Risk: By hard-coding an un-overrideable night-dimming profile to the headlight circuit, Toyota has built an active safety hazard. Drivers are forced into an unacceptable compromise: either drive illegally with headlights OFF during a daylight rainstorm to be able to read their speedometer, or turn headlights ON to comply with the law and drive blind to their actual traveling speed, warning lights, and driving telemetry. This extreme driver distraction severely increases the probability of an accident.

I was driving the vehicle at less than 15 miles in Wickham Park on Oct. 1, 2026. As I slowly turned right into a parking lot, the vehicle suddenly picked up speed, and crashed into a big tree near the parking lot. The airbag was activated, and the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged. Luckily, no one was injured from the accident, but this could have caused serous risk to myself and others. I am going to request Toyota to perform investigation to identify a cause of unintended acceleration. My wife also experienced unintended acceleration on the same vehicle on Sept. 29, 2025. When she was trying to slow down the vehicle to park, it suddenly picked up speed and hit a concrete wall in the garage.
12V battery failed when vehicle was only 9 months old, stranding me on a cold day in January. No warning of dying battery prior to failure. Required a tow to dealer, where battery failure was confirmed. Replaced under warranty. This standard Toyota battery is under powered to sustain electronic functions of car.
