BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020-2024 MINI Hardtop 2 Door (Cooper SE) vehicles. The high voltage battery housing may not have been sealed properly, allowing water to enter the battery.
The instrument cluster completely went blank and stopped working while driving, causing loss of critical information such as speed, warning lights, fuel level, and other vital indicators. This failure significantly impaired the safe operation of the vehicle and posed a serious safety risk. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, and I had to pay out-of-pocket for repairs. I understand there is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to this instrument cluster issue (“Instrument cluster version MID black screen”), which indicates this is a known defect. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter to ensure other owners of this vehicle model are aware and protected. Thank you for your attention.

I’m unable to take the car to a dealer, which is over 100 miles away, while the range of the EV is less than that. Plus I’m almost [XXX], just had hip replacement surgery. I’ve contacted the dealer, Mini US and BMW America many times and they refuse to help despite they caused the problem. I want them to pick up the car, fix the problems, and return to me. Please help! I was driving 45 MPH on a local highway, the electric door locks very rapidly switched between locked and unlocked and the passenger door popped OPEN while driving. I had to cautiously pull over to a parking lot to close the passenger door. The dashboard indicated the door was in the open position! I alerted the dealer, who indicated he would contact MINI and he did not follow up. I took the vehicle to MINI dealer to document the incident. They of course could not reproduce this on test drive and told me it was 'all clear'. Key fob history tells me there is a long history of electrical issues with the vehicle ( I bought second hand - not knowing of issues).

The flap that protects the charging port would not open. I could not charge the car for 2 days. My husband was able to open it but now it won't close. The first time this happened was Nov 2023. Dealership told me it was the cold weather. But now it's July albeit very hot temperatures and this is happening again. Since bringing it to the dealership in Nov 2023 to fix this, the charging flap open warning light remained on even though the charging flap was clearly closed
