The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA250. The contact stated while driving 68-70 MPH, the front roof panel separated from the vehicle and flew off. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V854000 (Structure) and 21V197000 (Structure). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

The head unit for the sound system begins a reset loop when navigating radio station and/or connecting bluetooth device. Seems to be a glitch in the head unit software. This is preventing use of navigation/GPS screen, backup camera, and Bluetooth connection.

While traveling on the highway (approximately 70mph) the panoramic sunroof exploded into countless tiny pieces of glass. Nothing hit the sunroof (no visible damage from any falling object on the sunscreen under the sunroof), nor did the vehicle hit anything. Completely random. This is apparently a common issue.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ENGINE
Apparently the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) which is built into the gas pedal on this 2014 MB CLA250 only lasts so long before it becomes defective under highway conditions and causes the vehicle to go into LIMP MODE. When full acceleration is necessary, the unit will work for perhaps a few months or less, and then continue to fail worse and more frequently with each attempt at full acceleration. At highway speeds, this is an essential feature in a 4-cylinder vehicle such as this one and without the necessary acceleration capability, can expose the driver to serious risk of collision with other on-coming vehicles traveling at highway speeds. This "Limp Mode" features is extremely dangerous and hazardous to not only the driver of their vehicle, but to other drivers around them since they are left in a devastating position of being unable to accelerate normally and as necessary and as one would expect in any vehicle, let alone a Mercedes Benz. Never before have I driven a car that falls out of full acceleration mode only to subject the driver to serious collision circumstances. Whoever the imbecile is at MB engineering who incorporated this Limp Mode Feature should be fired!!! To make matters worse, this cheaply built TPS, which is the cause of the problem in my vehicle specifically, was only warrantied twice by the dealer and now they will not replace it under warranty which is a two-year period. I've only had the part 5 months before it failed again due to poor manufacturing and I had to pay all over again for a new one despite my warranty validity. There have been many other MB owners who have the same complaint for Limp Mode, which tells me that it's definitely not me, but rather the poorly built or engineered vehicle, as a matter of fact. MB has denied having these complaints to me, which of course, is a lie. That's misleading and deceptive business practices in my State and MB needs to live up to its warranty provisions and respect its customers.

Exploding sunroof. Dealership will not accept responsibility even though this is a known issue with their cars. This exploded on the highway and could have caused major issues for other drivers and myself with flying glass. There was not any external impact that caused the explosion. Mercedes needs to recall and fix this issue to prevent other accidents.

Date of occurrence: 03/05/2024 Subject: Formal Claim Regarding Traffic Safety Issue with 2021 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 I am writing to formally submit a claim regarding a recent traffic safety incident involving my 2021 Mercedes Benz CLA 250. While driving to my destination, I encountered a sudden loss of power and inability to accelerate. To ensure the safety of myself and other drivers, I activated my emergency lights and cautiously proceeded at a limited speed of approximately 30 mph, accompanied by a strained engine sound. Understanding the potential risks associated with this issue, I immediately pulled over in a safe location and had to drive the vehicle with caution to my home where I then arranged for my vehicle to be towed to the service department. Upon inspection, the service department informed me that the problem stemmed from a software malfunction, for which Mercedes has not yet released an updated version. Given the nature of this incident and the potential safety hazards it poses, I am deeply concerned about the safety of driving my vehicle on the freeway or to any destination. Vehicle cluster lights go black while driving...dangerous due to no fuel gauge..no speed gauge... no speedometor..no seat belt warning and no blinkers to exit highway safely....there is a danger of crashing as vehicles goes hesitant during black periods...this is an ongoing problem with Mercedes as documented for numerous years with numerous vehicle's and different models. The safety of my driving this vehicle has come down to your ethics.. Does Mercedes value their customer [I think not] or does the safety of Highway Patrol ignore this dangerous and catastrophe accident waiting to happen.? I really hope someone will be helpful and I do really appreciate your time to this issue...

I was driving my 2014 Mercedes CLA 250 on [XXX] traveling away from Fairfax County and towards Prince William County on Christmas morning right before [XXX]. The front right passenger side wheel started shaking and then flew off. I brought the car to a stop on the left hand shoulder of the road on three wheels. My wheel hit the metal fence and then ricocheted back across to the left crossing both sides of traffic (four lanes), hitting a concrete wall and becoming airborne before landing in the stream below. It was sunny and there was no rain. Speed was 45 mph. Witnesses observed the incident and I have their contact information. A police report was filed. As I was driving yesterday afternoon, I heard a noise and normally we don't hear any type of noise or air coming into the car. I decided to open the sunroof to see if there was something wrong with it like if it was stuck open or if something was stuck in it, and the whole sunroof almost flew off the car. I had to pull over as fast as I could into the break down lane and it took me a while to close it and it still seems to be open, I didn't see anything stuck in the guide rails or in the area when closing it. I was very scared for the safety of my children and myself and for the other drivers on the highway. I have made an appointment so the shop and check the car out and run some diagnostics. There are no warning lights or messages prior to the sunroof almost flying off the car.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The cluster panel lights that indicate speed, fuel, brakes, lights, turn signal, engine light, high beams and all other components of safety of car continue to black out altogether or flash on and off continuous while driving. Safety is an issue if your driving and cluster panel blacks out. You do not know the speed your driving at and no turn signals work. The problem was reported to Mercedes and the software was reset. The problem continues to happen while driving and is dangerous on highways as speedometer and turn signals do not work. Gas gage spins from full to empty and brake and engine lights flash on and off or cluster again goes black. There are or have never been warnings. While driving it just happens. This has been happening on and off for a few months. Mercedes does not know the cause.

There is a service recall campaign for my model car but dealer/mercedes usa doesn't have the recall linking my car to it from my VIN. Campaign number is P-RC-2021070010. It is to replace the front stationary sunroof panel because it may not have been bonded correctly and could fly off and hit someone. My vehicle did have this same part rattle in 2017 during a cross-country trip.

Component failure was steering column module. Safety issue was air bag could inadvertently deploy while driving. Recall NHTSA # 17V627 was issued. Vehicle inspected by Stargate Garage, Caliber Collision and Mercedes of Pompano Beach FL. Message displayed was front left malfunction and red warning light for SRS system. Warning message and red light appeared 18 months after dealer supposedly repaired this recalled item. Vehicle was returned to dealer to make proper repair on this recalled item and they refused to replace it. Steering column module was replace by Stargate Garage and the message left front malfunction and red light warning SRS no longer appears on instrument panel. Stargate Garage was paid $685 to make this repair which should have been the dealer's responsibility. Therefor I am requesting that the dealer reimburse me my out of pocket expense of $685.00 since it was there responsibility to make this repair under the recall that was issued. I was unable to upload my documentation so I will also be sending this information in the mail.

roof front panel coating peeling off - there has been a recall for this issue on most mercedes benz of my year - not just my model- seems to consistently be an issue for the front panel between windshield and sunroof- [XXX] my specific VIN wasnt included in the recall but i am having the exact same issue- Mercedes told me to reach out to NHTSA to see about getting my VIN batch included in recall or re-issue broader recall to include my VIN # - they will not replace otherwise - so many people online have same issue as me and obviously it was enough of a hazard that the first recall was issued but there are more cars affected by it than what was covered. have tried to upload photos but the button dissapears when i click on upload [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
