- #11693915October 16, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Summary: Emergency collision warning system activated unexpectedly at highway speed, causing sudden braking and loss of vehicle control. Details: While traveling approximately 65 mph on [XXX] , the emergency collision warning system in my Kia activated suddenly and without cause. There were no vehicles in front, beside, or near me at the time. The system automatically engaged the brakes, causing the rear of my vehicle to jackknife. The vehicle did not slow gradually—it braked abruptly, creating a serious risk of rear-end collision. Afterward, the car would not shift back into drive, leaving me stranded in a dangerous location in the middle of the highway. This is the third time I have contacted Kia regarding the same malfunction with the emergency collision warning system. The issue remains unresolved and continues to pose a severe safety hazard to myself and other motorists. Date of most recent incident: [XXX] Vehicle information: 2024 KIA telluride Vin: Est.mileage: 37,000 Location: [XXX] Summary of concern: This malfunction causes the vehicle to brake unexpectedly and lose drivability, with no valid reason for system activation. This could easily result in a rear-end crash or multi-vehicle collision. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether other Kia owners have experienced similar incidents and whether this issue warrants a safety recall or software fix. This is my third experience with this warning system malfunctioning I have reached out to Kia previously before. When I was driving in a parking lot on 10/03/25 my car displayed a warning light that my engine was off and I needed to shift to neutral or park. This occurred 2 other times. I was parked at a light on 10/10 and when we left dinner and turned at a light it also shut off. This is a huge safety concern and I have saw others reporting this same issue.

Subject: Ongoing Issue with Excessive Oil Consumption – 2020 Kia S V6 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my concern and frustration regarding a recurring issue with my 2020 Kia S V6 related to excessive oil consumption. Despite multiple visits to the dealership and attempted repairs, the issue remains unresolved and continues to affect the safety and reliability of my vehicle. Vehicle Information: Year: 2020 Make: Kia Model: S V6 VIN: [XXX] Current Mileage: Approximately 85,808 miles Timeline of Events: September 6, 2024 – Oil change completed at Kia dealership in Easton. No prior issues reported at this time. [XXX] – After about a week of shaking and stuttering during acceleration, the vehicle shut off completely at a stoplight. Upon checking, the oil level was found to be empty. I added 6–7 quarts of oil. No oil warning light appeared on the dashboard at any time. January 14, 2025 – Brought the vehicle to the Easton Kia dealership. Diagnosed with a broken and leaking oil filter housing, which was replaced. Another oil change was completed. [XXX] – After the engine light came on, I checked the oil at 77,021 miles and found it to be low again. I added 1 quart of oil. The engine light was later determined to be due to a loose gas cap. Once again, no oil warning light appeared. [XXX] – At 78,000 miles, I checked the oil, as advised by Kia, to monitor consumption. The oil level was completely empty. I added another 6–7 quarts of oil. No warning light appeared on the dashboard. [XXX] -- Kia for oil change and consumption test at 82,177 miles. Consumption was read after 1,000 miles and I was advised it was good. I was told to come back at 86,075 miles as per Kia recommendation. [XXX] -- A few hundred miles before the deadline, at approx 85,790 miles I checked oil before a trip, it was empty. Again, no warning light came on the dashboard to warn me of low/no oil. The contact owns a 2024 Kia Telluride. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V494000 (STRUCTURE); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased in June 2025. While driving back to the residence after the vehicle was purchased, the cover behind the rearview mirror detached and was hanging loose. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer for repairs, and the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The contact was informed that the vehicle had an aftermarket windshield, which caused the glue to melt. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while closing the front driver’s side door, the door molding trim had delaminated and detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

This vehicle only has 31,000 miles on it and I've already had one door trim molding replaced. (now the rest of the trim doesn't match so that's great for aesthetics) The interior door panel replaced because it was loose. This car developed a "thumping" noise around 25K miles when turning at low speeds. Took it to the dealer, told them it is probably the AWD coupler, and they said the self-leveling rear shocks were leaking. So those got replaced. Thumping was still there. I mentioned to the dealer that it is probably still the AWD coupler. Dealer decides to replace the rear differential because they found metal shavings in the diff fluid. Sound is still there but now not as loud. Car is currently back at the dealer for diagnostics to remedy the situation. I don't understand how a car with only 30k miles on it should be having these kinds of major issues. Kia seems to know about these issues because they do not argue about replacing anything. The car looks great, and the size is great. But I cannot imagine the nightmares I'm going to have for the next 30K. Or how bad the nightmare will be once I am out of factory warranty.

I drive a Kia Telluride and while driving down the highway two pieces of plastic fell down into the passenger seat. Next the window flew up into the air. I had to physically hold the window down while driving with children in the back seat. No warranty will cover the sunroof and I was quoted $6000 to fix it. Upon searching this information I found that this has happened to multiple people and Kia is not trying to fix it. I spent all of my savings on this car to be able to transport my family safely. This did not happen.

Oil consumption- I have had to keep oil in the car to top off my oil in between oil changes. It will get low before I can make to another appointment and start shaking or making a loud noise when driving or braking. Oil consumption test says I’m burning 2 qt /1000 miles. Checking online and different forums this is a know issue for these models of vehicles

The Telluride has developed a shimmy. At first, the shimmy was noted at lower speeds, around 35 to 45 mph while under minimal load such as going uphill and slightly accelerating. The car was taken to the dealership. The tires were balanced. We were told no other problems. A month later, same thing, same result. We just took a 2700 mile trip. The shimmy is apparent at higher speeds and in all transmission modes of operation.

Sunroof fails to close. Problem is known as there are multiple reports stating that the sunroof deflector breaks within a few years on Kia Telluride. Vehicle cannot be driven as you cannot lock the vehicle when a window is open/weather impacts drive-ability..

Kia replaced oil filter adapter and now it burns through excessive amounts of oil. 3qts over 1000 miles. KIA wanted to do an oil consumption test but by the end it would have been out of warranty. Engine replacement would then not be covered.

Vehicle engine is using 1-2 quarts of oil every month or so. Vehicle only has 85k miles. Engine also has a rattle/tick when accelerating. I believe this is due to the excessive oil usage.

High oil consumption. Oil needs added frequently or it gets low and car doesn’t run correctly. Transmission slips daily at low speed first thing in the morning. When making slow turns tires tires don’t seem to remain steady/grip. The car is hoppy like there is a traction problem. Tires have been replaced and issue remains.
