- #11548794October 7, 2023SERVICE BRAKES
ABS and other lights flashed on the dashboard, the vehicle slowed as if the brakes were pressed. And then it happens several more times before getting home. I brought the vehicle and saw there was a failure of the left rear ABS sensor. Upon looking the sensor is just sitting loose and the clip is rusted out and the sensor has no slot to press into. Upon research I see that this clip rusting out is a problem in these and it is very obviously a safety problem as for whatever reason the brakes engage when the sensor is faulty.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably in the front end, causing the steering wheel to vibrate uncontrollably. The contact also heard abnormal sounds coming from the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not under recall or warranty. The failure mileage was unknown.

The throttle body on my 2015 Jeep has been replaced twice and is faulty again for the third time. I've owned the vehicle since brand new from dealer. The throttle body’s main task is regulating air intake on the engine. The throttle body malfunction makes the Jeep prone to engine stalling, starting failure, or power surge while accelerating. It is a safety hazard and environmental hazard, since the problem impacts engines and emissions. Significant problems like reduced acceleration or deteriorating fuel efficiency.

Over the past year, the car has had 4 crank position sensors, new pig tails/connectors on the wire harness, a new throttle body, and a new MCM. The Jeep will randomly shut off without warning either at stoplights/traffic or on the highway at speed. While at speed, the car will "restart" itself, but if it stalls while stagnant a manual restart is necessary. When the stalling occurs, warning lights do not appear on the dash. Lately, however; the crank position code P0339 has come up with the check engine light. I recently experienced a crank position sensor code followed by a cylinder 3 misfire which caused the car to go into limp mode. Once I replaced the MCM, the misfire went away. Most recently (today) the car stalled in the middle of an intersection while making a left turn; my [XXX] son was in the car with me. Since it was a stop light, the car was able to be restarted in time, but had it been a stop sign/non-stop oncoming traffic, the situation could have been much worse. My Jeep began having a few second stall and restart while driving randomly late 2020. I’m the last 6 months it stalls for longer periods of time but I initially was able to put it in neutral and restart it. About 4 months ago it became more and more difficult to start after I would be forced to pull to the side of the road with no power, hard steering and hard brakes. The check engine light came on at one point. I called the dealership and it was suggested that I take the Jeep in. The diagnostic code indicated the crankshaft position sensor (P0339). But the check engine light wasn’t flashing and it was late in the afternoon so I had to make an appointment to take it back. After 4 days the check engine light went off. The stalling just got very frequent. I would put it in park and turn the ignition repeatedly and after several minutes it would regain power. Just over 1 month ago it stalled in the middle of a busy intersection during afternoon rush hour. It had to be pushed out of the intersection. After more than 10 minutes of continued ignition turns it started and I made it 3 blocks to home and parked it. I had it towed to the same dealership 5 days ago. The crankshaft position sensor has to be replaced. I’ve done research over the last 48 hours and found there was a recall for some 2016 Jeep Patriots for the crankshaft position sensor because it was a safety problem. I’ve checked my VIN number and there has been no recall for this on my vehicle. However, my Jeep Patriot is a 2016 with the exact same problem the the recall was initiated for. Please help me with this if you’re able to. I don’t know where else to turn.

My 2015 Jeep Patriot randomly loses power to the engine/stalls out nearly every time I make a trip. More specifically, the RPMs will suddenly drop to zero. This has happened at every speed from 10 mph to 80 mph. Often I have to pull over, take the key out and lock/unlock the doors several times to get the engine to start back up. I have been stranded for as long as 45 minutes to an hour waiting for the vehicle to become operable again.

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the rear end of the vehicle was swaying from side to side. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to a tire repair shop for alignment and tire rotation services; however, the contact was informed that the services could not be performed because the rear crossmember was severely corroded and fractured, which caused damages to the rear tires. Additionally, the mechanic informed the contact that the front crossmember was corroded. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's mother. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under TSB Number: 23-007-17 REV.B, because the TSB had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000. The VIN was unavailable.

- #11542046September 1, 2023ENGINE, STEERING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Vehicle suddenly stalls with no prior warning, both while driving and at rest. This cannot be duplicated and does not throw codes on the code scanner. Occasionally it will "hiccup" and keep going instead of a complete stall. RPM drops to zero and will then jump back to their prior reading. The vehicle becomes impossible to control (stalled so no speed st all abd difficult to steer). Mechanic cannot duplicate problem or find code on their reader. We have replaced the throttle body and one camshaft sensor but not the other, more difficult to reach sensor. There is a current recall for camshaft/crankshaft sensor that applies to some 2016 jeep patriots but ours falls outside of that manufacturing date range.
