Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 INFINITI QX55 and 2022 INFINITI QX50 vehicles. The incorrect door latch may have been installed in the front right-side passenger door lock assembly, preventing the front right-side door lock from automatically locking.
I am writing to request NHTSA’s assistance and guidance regarding an unresolved safety recall affecting my 2022 Infiniti QX50, VIN [XXX]. I imported this vehicle from the United States to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in 2023. The vehicle remains in Abu Dhabi and is awaiting shipment back to the United States. I was evacuated from the UAE, and my employer has not permitted me to return. As a result, I am unable to take the vehicle to a U.S. Infiniti or Nissan dealership to have the recall inspected and remedied. Before arranging shipment, the shipping company informed me that it will not proceed while the recall remains open unless I provide additional documentation showing that the recall has been resolved. I contacted Infiniti and Nissan dealerships in the UAE and the wider Middle East to ask whether they could inspect the vehicle and complete the applicable recall remedy. I was advised that these dealerships do not inspect or perform recall repairs on U.S.-specification vehicles that have been imported into the region. This has left me in a difficult position: the vehicle cannot be shipped unless I provide documentation that the recall has been addressed, yet the local dealerships I contacted have indicated that they will not provide the inspection or remedy because the vehicle is a U.S.-specification import. I respectfully request NHTSA’s assistance in identifying an appropriate path forward. Specifically, I would appreciate guidance on whether the manufacturer can provide an authorized remedy, written confirmation of the recall status and available remedy, or other official documentation that may help the shipping company determine whether shipment can proceed. If NHTSA cannot issue a statement confirming that the recall cannot be remedied in the UAE or Middle East, I would appreciate referral to the appropriate manufacturer contact or agency resource that can address this situation. This sudden and dangerous event substantially obstructed the driver's visibility and created an immediate risk of catastrophic injury, death, and property damage. Fortunately, no collision occurred; however, the potential consequences of such a failure are self-evident.
