As I was driving home, my Kona started slowing down until it totally stopped. I tried the the gas pedal again but it didn’t move, electrical was on, no warning lights. I turned my Kona off, turned it back on again and drove the rest of way home. I was lucky I was on an empty road no other cars behind me as I drive everyday to and from work. I called Hyundai dealer next morning about the problem ,he did asked if I had heard a knocking sound. I said yes ,the week or so I heard a knocking sound twice but not for long, seemed to have disappeared. I didn’t want to drive the car to the dealer afraid it would stop on the highway so I had it towed. Service person said he would check if it is under warranty but there is no recall on my Kona.

- #11623149November 1, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
One day after I filled my gas tank, I noticed a strong gasoline smell outside the car. The next morning, I noticed a huge puddle on the pavement under the fuel tank. At least a gallon of gasoline must have leaked out overnight while the car was parked. I also noticed that gasoline continued to drip down from the fuel tank to the ground. I then had the car towed to the mechanic and they discovered a crack in the mounting flange on the top of the plastic fuel pump. The car was not in a collision and there was no external force that could have caused the fuel pump to crack and leak.

- #11623209November 1, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On four separate occasions now, I have been driving on the highway at roughly 60 mph, no cars in front of or beside me, and nothing else obstructing the roadway, when completely out of nowhere the emergency braking activates for 3-5 seconds. Thankfully there was only a car behind me on one occasion, and they were far enough behind to not collide after my sudden braking.

-The right knuckle sheared upon wheel impact with a curb at approximately 35 mph. At the time the vehicle was pushed northward by 46mph gust as the driver attempted a left hand turn onto a westbound lane from a northbound road. The part is still attached to the vehicle which is currently at the collision repair center. -Failure of the part left the driver stranded and the vehicle unmovable making it a traffic hazard. -Both the tow truck driver and the policeman who called him looked at the part and expressed they had never seen that failure before. No technical inspection of the component has taken place. A retired mechanical engineer who used to perform tests at Eaton Corporation looked at the pictures and the details of the accident and indicated that the part should have survived such an impact. -No symptoms were noticed prior to this failure.

In line with NHTSA recall notice 21V301000, affecting 2019 Hyundai Kona's for piston oil ring defects, I believe the Date of Manufacture (DoM) range should be extended. Currently, the recall notice indicates vehicles manufactured between 11/2/2018 and 9/1/2020 are impacted, however my vehicle, with the indicated VIN, was manufactured 10/31/2018, two days before the indicated start date on this recall notice. My vehicle has been experiencing many of the same indicated symptoms of the faulty piston oil ring, such as abnormal knocking/rattling from the engine during acceleration, hesitation and engine dying randomly (while in motion), and significant oil consumption (half of the engine's capacity in just 2-3K miles. Given the symptom matches and the fact that my vehicle's DoM is within 2 days of the indicated recall start point, I believe it should be included in the above mentioned recall notice.

My 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric lost power several times while driving on roads and highways at various speeds. The first instance was on [XXX] near Burlington, MA on [XXX], and then it happened several other times before we were able to get the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership for diagnosis and repair. The power loss typically manifested in the vehicle stuck at about 20-25 mph despite generous use of the accelerator pedal (often to the floor). There were no error messages or similar diagnostic information provided before, during, or after moments when power loss occurred. Often the vehicle would return to normal operation after a few minutes or by turning the vehicle off and back on again. The safety of the driver and passengers was at significant risk, especially on higher speed roadways due to the slow speed of the Kona in these moments. The dealer service department completed extensive diagnostics as detailed in the service report PDF attached. They ultimately found a nut (designated "ge09") connecting several ground wires to the chassis was loose. After replacing the nut and tightening to specification the problem has not recurred. We are satisfied with the communication and fix from the dealership and Hyundai corporate representatives, but concerned other Hyundai owners might encounter this issue with their vehicle. Vehicle was traveling down the highway with cruise control on and suddenly proceeded to not maintain speed and lost the ability to accelerate and shake in the middle of the interstate. Check engine light came on after this and we were able to limp it off the highway onto the ramp. No warning lights, no over heating, or any signs were given prior to this incident to give the impression this vehicle would stop operating. My family's safety was put at risk as it lost speed suddenly on the interstate in the middle of traffic and could have caused other cars to hit us as we slowed and tried to get over to access the ramp. Vehicle was towed and inspected at a local mechanic and was informed there was oil burned on the spark plugs and cylinder 1 and 3 had little to no compression.

- #11621176October 22, 2024ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Kona. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at undisclosed speeds, the engine warning light illuminated. There was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined there was knock in the cylinder. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was determined that the cam was overworked and both cams had overproduced. Additionally, there was a misfire in cylinders number 1, 2, and 4. There was a power imbalance test performed, which determined that cylinder #3 was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,745.

7 months old Kona with 700 miles on it. Woke up one morning with a "Totally" dead battery. The internet is full of incidents such as mine--new Konas with dead batteries. The dealer could not give me a service date until one month later. Car is still at the dealer...

I received a notification by email from NHTSA about a recall for our 2023 Hyundai Kona N. It states that the recall has to do with Loss of Drive Power from Fuel Pump Failure. Your recall ID 24V528 sent July 22, I phoned the dealer, Mike Murphy in Peoria, Illinois and they could not find this recall. I have an appointment with them on Oct 24 to bring in my car for an oil change and to fix a recall on the trunk lock (I was not given any info on this recall until I contacted the dealership). Since I put in my VIN # above, It did not turn up anything either. What's going on and why are you sending Recalls that have nothing to do with my vehicle (?)

- #11618689October 8, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the instrument cluster, radio, and headlights inadvertently turned off for 20-30 seconds; however, the vehicle remained operational. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a loosened coaxial cable behind the radio, but no DTC codes were stored in any modules. The dealer related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 24-BE-013H (Software Reset for Connected Car Service (CCS) Disconnection). The dealer disconnected and reconnected the PDC connector, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to McCarthy Olathe Hyundai (681 N Rawhide, Olathe, KS 66061); however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,808.

While driving on the interstate highway the engine stopped. The circumstances surrounding the failure matched those for Kona VINs that were recalled.

When stopped at a light, I hit the gas and the car just sputtered. The car jolted and did not move, finally, hit the gas again it was able to move. It has happen before. My roommate's Dad told me I need to keep track of problem and file a report. I was told the injectors needed to be cleaned. I put injector cleaner into it, It seem to help but it happened again. It seems the dealer just says something needs to be cleaned.

While trying to accelerate on a on ramp onto the interstate, I felt my engine begin to knock. I pulled over and was able to get the car to drive home. The next morning my car would not turn over. I had it towed to my mechanic. They said it was bone dry of oil, I have always had it regularly serviced. They diagnosed it with engine failure. I’m just above the 60000 mile warranty at 63000 and Hyundai refuses to honor the warranty or help with the engine failure.

I had a 2021 Hyundai Kona limited. On Friday 09/13/2024 my engine caught fire and my car was a total loss. Minutes before the fire I noticed some smoke, all of my dash lights came on and the car shut down. Seconds after stopping the vehicle and getting out the whole engine went up in flames. There are recalls active for my make model and year, nothing for my specific vin number but will be reaching out to Hyundai corporate to see if they want to come look at the car, in case it needs to be added to the recall list.
