We are an elderly couple [XXX] old. We were terrified. No warning. I got in my vehicle one morning. It smelled like something burning and the air inside was hazy. We went to our mechanic who discovered the problem and we had to wait 2 weeks before Hyundai would even allow the car to be towed to them because they were "too busy" I am a second owner of this vehicle and never received any recall notice for anything on it.This is an Un-remedied recall 188 ABS module a severe thermal event, melted the casing, exposed internal circuitry and caused a widespread electrical short that disabled the instrument cluster/speedeometer rendering the vehicle un-drivable. Manufacture is refusing to repair the vehicle and attempting a forced lowball cash payout. The are harassing me to sign over documents including title and insurance and want me to sign for them to tow the car from the hyundai dealership in New Port Richey and won't tell me where. I took meticulous care of my vehicle. It only has 102,000 miles on it and i kept everything in pristine condition. If i am forced to purchase another vehicle with Kelly Blue Book value as they mentioned to me over the phone , I will be forced to purchase a junk car that will put myself and my wife in jeapordy and is causeing us extreme stress. We are elderly on a fixed income. This is an extreme hardship on us. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact's cousin owns a 2008 Hyundai Entourage. The contact stated that while driving 60-65 MPH at nighttime under snowy and icy conditions, the hood flew open and struck and shattered the windshield. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, and the hood was closed but failed to latch securely. The vehicle was driven to the residence, where the contact became aware that the hood pistons were bent, and other unknown hood assembly parts were damaged. Additionally, the owner informed the contact that prior to the failure, the hood needed to be closed with excessive force to latch securely. The vehicle was taken to Safelite Auto Glass, where the windshield was replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V843000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The valve over eventually leaks oil that drips down on to the alternator. This cause the electrical system to fail, the battery and brake lights come on. Then slowly all lights come on as battery shuts down. This is a known issue with this engine. This happened to me yesterday while driving at night leaving the car unable to drive. When the battery completely shuts down you cannot even move the vehicle out of Park, as electric is needed to disengage the the shifter from park, so you cannot even push the vehicle off of the road. Hyundai has a recall for the exact same engine in the Veracruz. Here are two videos showing issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSLmj8Gqc1Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9Q78so3GPI https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/entourage/engine-oil-leaking-problems.php The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v415000 (engine and engine cooling).
