ENGINE
Blown motor on 2023 Yukon (after owning the SUV exactly 1 month). 3600 miles on it. Picked it up January 9, 2023, motor blown on Feb 9th, 2023. From my dealer: Tech found perform tear down on the engine- remove lower oil pan and discovery metal inside the oil pan. perform inspect on the bottom engine and found rod bearings spun- causing internal premature engine failure. Final ticket write up included: engine appeared to be “starving for oil” cylinders #5 & 6 piston rod bearings seized. Major internal engine failure. I went through the full engine replacement at a local dealer then dealt with GM for 2 months and eventually they did fully replace this vehicle with a new 2023 GMC YUKON. Luckily expedited the build as the first one took 9 months to receive. we took deliver of new vehicle in June of 2023. Can provide the new VIN if necessary. Current 6.2L has about 30k miles on it .

The motor on my 2021 Yukon completely failed while driving on a busy state road. The blown motor was replaced by a local GMC dealership, so I do not know it's status or if it'd be available to inspect. My safety was greatly put at risk. I am blessed that my wife and children were not with me, if they were, I would be even more furious. While driving on a busy state road, the tachometer dropped to zero and the truck automatically shifted into neutral. I quickly realized the engine had shutdown, and attempted a restart while coasting. The motor would not restart and I was lucky enough to coast into a nearby parking lot. Had I been in traffic, on the highway, or at a stop light, the situation could have been even more dangerous. As it was, I was stuck in below freezing temps for several hours waiting for triple A. They sent the wrong tow truck twice, and I eventually cancelled the triple A call and called a local wrecking company to come tow the car more than 24 hours later...luckily in the interim I was picked up by a family member. The issue was simply stated to me by the mechanics at the local GMC shop as the motor had "blown", they didn't know why, and they completely minimized the magnitude of the situation. To the best of my knowledge the blown engine has only been looked at by GMC employees. There were NO warning lamps or other symptoms associated with any such failure of this type - which in my opinion, makes the matter even worse and more dangerous. I am frankly furious that GMC is not doing more to address these known catastrophic issues. They have said they will not extend the powertrain warranty and I've read online that people have had their "new" motors blow the same way that the old ones did.

The engine turned off while driving TWICE with NO WARNING. The first time the engine turned off without warning doing around 60MPH but was able to be restarted and ran normally for about a week or so. The second and final time that the engine turned off without warning was about a week after the first incident. The engine would not restart, in fact, it would not even crank. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was determined to be a crankshaft bearing failure causing a bottom end engine failure. Metal shavings were found in the oil pan. Vehicle is only 14 months old and has 22,754 miles. All service was done by dealer at manufacturers suggested intervals.

ENGINE, SERVICE BRAKES, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
[XXX] while driving on [XXX] myself and my family in our 2022 yukon 6 lane highway 65 mph the engine lost power with no warning at all and left us with no power steering ,or brakes. This was in heavy traffic with other vehicles on our right and left side. I was able to put 4 way on and carefully move to the right lane and then barely to the burm. Vehicle would not restart and the sound of it was of rattle and groan. yukon was towed to the nearest dealer and we were told it was a bad engine of either bearings or rods. We were very lucky to not having an accident and harm my family or other persons on the highway. When a new engine was installed it ran for ony 15 minutes and also was defective for the same issue. Vehicle was returned to us on 12/14/24 and we were denied any additional warranty. At this point i have no confidence in the vehicle or General Motors. We took a financial loss when we traded the vehicle because of the major problems thru no fault of ours. The dealer would offer nothing as far as extending the warranty nor would GMC customer service that we filed a formal complaint # [XXX]. Passing a semi up a hill going 75 and the motor shuts off. As the Yukon slowed, the semi slowed down as well. It was difficult trying to get the Yukon to the right shoulder. There was no warnings or anything on the dash. The vehicle just quit running. Tried restarting and it was like the battery was dead. Got it towed to a dealership and they said the engine was ruined from 6 of the 8 rod bearings disintegrating. Took almost a month to replace with the problem being so common and no engines available.

My 2021 Yukon Denali has roughly 70k miles and this is now the SECOND time that my engine shut off while driving >55mph on the interstate in the past 3 months. The first time, I had the sensation that the car was running out of gas when I went to accelerate. After about 5-10 seconds, the engine turned off, but the electronics stayed on. I coasted to the side of the road and tried multiple times to start it without success. The engine sounded fine while turning over and over, but it would never start. That episode turned out to be a bad fuel pump control module, and after roughly $400 at the local Firestone auto repair shop, I was on my way (FYI, they didn't diagnose it; I learned that was the likely problem by reading online forums and basically demanded they replace the FPCM). Now, here I am about 3 months later, and it happened again, just two days after I had the vehicle serviced at the GMC dealership for a check engine light that was intermittently coming on. The technicians said I needed an update to the Engine Control Module which was completed. The main difference was that this time, I had zero warning. There was no sensation of running out of fuel or funny noises from the engine. I just went to give it gas and noticed it wasn't working. There was a warning on the dash saying push button to start the vehicle (once again, the electronics stayed on when the engine shut off). After coasting to the side of the road, the battery seemed to be good, but the engine wouldn't turn over. I had it towed to the shop and am being told I will likely need a new engine!

Was driving on highway when the engine started to labor. Without notice the car flipped into neutral. Obviously this was very dangerous going from acceleration to no engine power. I barely made it to the side of the highway by crossing two lanes to get there. When on the side of the road the car went into park and was unable to move to any other modes. Not even neutral. Again very lucky to have gotten off on the shoulder. Once the car came to a stop we were stuck for good. Had to get towed 60 miles or the nearest dealership with my wife and two young children. Took the car to a GMC dealership who said; “yeah this has been happening with the V8s”. It has now been 30 days and still no updates from GM outside of them waiting on a new engine. Also GM only gives you $44/day for a rental car which doesn’t even come close to covering a like kind vehicle. We had a 2024 Yukon Denali. I am now without a car and the only communication I am getting from GM and the GMC dealership is to wait until they receive and replace the engine, which they say should hopefully fix the problem. I am not taking the risk that this could happen again with my family in the car. Looking to get some form of a buyout and move into a different car.

Yukon with 6.2 V8 suffered crankshaft bearing failure. Vehicle had only 9800 miles on it. No warning. Vehicle shifted itself into neutral and engine shut off. Engine replaced under warranty.

1. The authorized dealer repair center stated my engine has failed and needs to be replaced. It is currently at the dealer so it's unknown if it is available for inspection. I'm sure if the inspector would go to the dealer I can make that process happen. 2. The point of complete engine failure has not occurred as of yet to me so It is unknown how this would effect my safety. One would have to assume that engine failure could always be a safety problem if driving when it occurred. 3. The problem I reported has been confirmed by the authorized dealer. 4. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized dealer repair center but I am not aware of any other people that performed same inspection. 5. There was a knocking noise come from the engine when I accelerated and loss of power when accelerating. The noise was first detected 12/24/24 and I made an appointment with the authorized dealer repair center online. My vehicle was dropped off the first available day on 12/26/24. I have time & date video of the engine issue if wanted.

While passing on a two-lane road at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled and acted as if the engine wasn't running. Pulled over to the side of the road and was able to restart the engine after shifting to park. Engine was harder to start than usual and cranked slowly. After restarting, the engine ran fine for the remainder of the trip, but would occasionally have difficulty cranking. After this incident, the engine developed a knock that would vary with engine RPM, and sounded like a defective connecting rod bearing. Pulled the dipstick and noticed metal shavings in the oil. Took the vehicle to local dealership who confirmed the engine was defective and would require replacement. Vehicle has been at the dealership since December 5th waiting for a backordered engine.

I’ve had the engine blown and replaced twice. The first time it failed in the middle of an intersection. We could not put it in neutral to move it. We had to call a tow truck. No check engine lights just a noise. The engine had failed bc the bearings couldn’t get oil. The second time it blew I was driving down the interstate and same thing only a noise so I pulled over and the car died. Also had to call a tow truck. It was the same as the first time the engine had blew because of the bearings not getting any oil. So now I’m on my third engine in a 2023, hoping that it doesn’t do it again.

I have a 2022 Yukon Denali. On [XXX] the engine failed with approximately 33,000 miles on it. When the engine failed, we were traveling on a highway in New York State at a high rate of speed. Everything shut down but the steering and brakes. This put us in a dangerous situation in which we had to exit the freeway and call for a tow truck. It was still under warranty. They replaced the engine and completed the project on November 5, 2024. They delivered the car from the dealership that repaired it in New Jersey to my home in California on December 9, 2024. The new engine they installed failed on December 10, 2024. I brought it to Winter Chevrolet in Pittsburgh California. As of January 18, 2025 they have still not been able to locate a new engine to install. As of today, it has been 117 days since I’ve been without the use of my car. In my dealings with General motors, it appears that their goal is just to stall until they find an engine to install in my car also we have had no clear explanation or diagnosis of what actually is wrong with the car. In July of 2024 while coming back from vacation pulling our boat our 2021 Yukon Denali with 6.2L motor started making noise while traveling on the interstate. I started to get over to the shoulder as the car lost power. I finally got it over to the shoulder as traffic was heavy and it was pouring down rain. As soon as I got it to the side of the road the check engine light came on and the engine died. It would not turn over or restart. After about 3 hours along side the very busy highway in bad weather GM finally sent a tow truck to take it to the dealer. After a week in a half it was finally diagnosed with spun rod bearings and main crankshaft bearings. The car had just over 21,000 miles and had been serviced per the manufactures recommendations. It took over 7 weeks for the car to be repaired where they replaced the engine with a remanufactured engine. We did not get a loaner car since it happened in KY and we live in IN. Our family had to find our own way home and a way to get our boat home also. We then had to find our own way back to get the vehicle once it was repaired. GM did reimburse us for a rental car at $44 a day only and they did not pay any taxes or fees only the rental rate. You cannot rent a similar sized vehicle for $44 dollars a day. We spent approx. $2K out of our own pocket for expenses related to this breakdown. The vehicle now has approx. 29,000 miles on it and we have not had any problems since we got it back

On November 13, 2024 I was operating my vehicle at approximately 55 miles per hour when it suddenly experienced complete engine failure. The incident occured at 10 o'clock at night, and the loss of power resulted in the immediate shutdown of all vehicle systems, including headlights. Due to the unexpected nature of the failure, I was unable to bring the vehicle to an immediate stop. Fortunately, my three children and I escaped the incident without injury. The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and I was able to assess the situation and contact OnStar. The vehicle was towed to dealership.

Definitely needs an engine. Will get a new engine, radiator and oil cooler lines ordered Rear pinion seal on the rear differential was leaking also so I've ordered one of those and will replace it

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I have been told the MODULE ASM-COMN INTERFAC Part #86581706 has failed and is on back order, with no anticipated in stock date, and not available to be repaired. This controls the vehicles communication with Onstar which is currently not working. Onstar is sold as a safety feature of the vehicle. In addition I do not have access to the location services of the vehicle, also sold as a safety feature of the vehicle. The vehicle is available to inspection. The problem has been inspected by a GMC Dealer. There were no warning lamps, messages or promts when the module failed. I had to have the failure diagnosed by the dealer to locate the failure.

My vehicle radiator fan immediately cut on high when I turned on the vehicle. The temperature of the vehicle was normal. I also experienced this when the engine was completely cold. I was assured there was no need to tow the vehicle but I could drive and schedule service with dealer. The software triggered a reduced acceleration condition. This did not allow me to accelerate as needed while navigating an interstate interchange.

I was driving on the highway at about 70 miles an hour and my vehicle started to decelerate without warning, dash lights came on. I was able to safely get off to the side of the road. The vehicle would not start, so I had to call a tow truck. Once towed to the GMC dealership and looked at by mechanics, I was told the engine failed and I would need to replace it. I was also told there were metal shavings in the oil. My vehicle did this without any warnings. I never had the check engine light come on before this incident, nor were there any noises that would make me think something was wrong with my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle while turning right or left. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, a diagnostic result was not provided. The independent mechanic made the contact aware of an undisclosed recall however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,052.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
Windshield wipers quit working while raining and driving. I was able to get home even though I couldn’t see. I tried turning the car on and off multiple times and testing the windshield wipers but they still didn’t work. After about 10 mins, I restarted the car and the wipers worked again. I took video of the wipers not working while the car was on. They will work fine and then all of the sudden while it is raining they will stop work. This is the second time this has happened in 4 months.
