I am writing to formally log a safety concern regarding my vehicle’s 6.2L L87 engine, specifically in relation to the known defects under NHTSA’s ongoing Engineering Analysis EA25007. The engine seized up while driving in traffic which has a safety impact on the occupants and other drivers. The vehicle was towed to GM and the they noted the the engine has catastrophic internal failure with large metal debris in the engine oil and filter. This is consistent with failures that other GM owners have experienced with GM's L87 engine. The initial recall (Recall 25V-274) for a specific manufacturing window (March 1, 2021, to May 31, 2024), the NHTSA launched EA25007 because it continued to receive a flood of complaints from owners whose vehicles fell outside that original recall window. That is me, I am outside that original window. But I am confident that the issue was known by GM and should have been handled several years ago with a wider recall window. Now I was exposed to a safety issue and I am stuck with a large repair bill. I think there is an even broader active investigation EA26005.

Engine stop working, lots of black smokes through the exhausts and vibrating weird. Lifters failed amoung other parts and they deemed the engine bad so they replaced it with a new one. The new engine started to make the same weird noises.

The contact's son owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. While the contact's son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and the engine seized. The driver attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a fuel pump drive module failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump drive module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted by phone, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 31,298.

I purchased said vehicle with a little over 76,000 miles on XXX from NW Chevrolet, [XXX]. Dealership service the engine on XXX and remained on their lot until it was sold. While driving home, I smelled gas fumes coming into the cabin and the engine was misfiring causing slight hesitation in motor acceleration while adjusting to speed limits and climbing hills. I told management at the dealership about these issues on XXX. My vehicle is currently in the shop to fix the fuel injection system, spark plugs, grounding issues as of XXX to fix the dealerships mistake costing more out of pocket expense. Management will not do anything about it because it was sold (As Is) without a warranty which I refused to purchase through finance and interest charges on a car loan. I purchased a 4-year warranty through Endurance on XXX with a 30 day wait period before filing a claim. GM is letting their dealerships advertise and sell problem vehicles with known motor issues to consumers while marking up the sale price. Vehicles should never be sold until GM fixes all motor defects before advertising to the consumer. The consumer is at serious financial risk when getting an auto loan paying on a broken vehicle. Purchased above listed vehicle new in XXX. Immediately noticed a 'coolant' smell in cab. brought vehicle in for coolant smell issue on XXX and XXX. We were told that there was no issue until finally on XXX we were told the radiator needed to be replaced at OUR expense. XXX we received a letter from GMC advising the "engine coolant control valve" may fail. In XXX while driving on mountain roads (we live in [XXX]) the check engine light came on and while at 50 mph, the vehicle went into "limp mode" we lost power and speed was immediately reduced. We now know that a symptom of that valve failure is coolant smell in the cab of the car, a problem we had attempted to address with GMC from the beginning. We could have had a serious accident driving on a busy mountain road when this failure occurred. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11763419September 10, 2026UNKNOWN OR OTHER
The engine coolant control valve on my 2021 GMC Sierra 3.0L Duramax diesel failed. This specific component failure triggers an active vehicle 'No-Restart' safety event during automatic engine stop/start operations (per GM Service Bulletin #24-NA-070). This condition can suddenly prevent the vehicle from restarting when stopped at intersections or in active traffic, creating an immediate highway safety hazard and leaving the vehicle stranded. Additionally, the vehicle's radiator cooling fans run continuously at 100% maximum capacity as a system fail-safe, creating severe electrical drain. General Motors has issued a Special Coverage Adjustment (#N252508341) acknowledging the high failure rate of this part, but it is capped at 150,000 miles. Because this defect causes unexpected stalling/no-start safety risks in live traffic past this arbitrary mileage limit, a formal safety recall is required.

Truck rear wheels locked up while going between 45 - 50 mph nearly causing accident. Driver behind me had to lock-up their breaks to avoid collision. This is happening every time I drive the truck for more than 30 minutes. It is happening multiple times a day now. I cannot drive truck - too unsafe to drive. Tried getting serviced, but local GMC dealer said they are backed up with truck transmission issues and can't get mine in until Sep 15 - 3 weeks after first reporting. No warning signs. The locking of rear wheels takes me by surprise.

Catastrophic Engine Failure due to Lifter Failure at approximately 51,000 miles driven. This has been confirmed by the dealership and reported/escalated to General Motors. The truck is at the dealership for repairs. General Motors offered to cover 65% of the repair as a Goodwill sign. As the 60K powertrain warranty had expired. This truck has the same components that are covered under the recall for the same model year. However the recall only extends to March 1, 2021 Manufacture date. My truck was manufactured a few weeks prior to that so it was not included. GM refused even discuss this could be potentially due to a recalled issue. Multiple warning lights and error messaged were present on the dash indicating issues when it failed. Additionally, a loud metallic knocking noise was present at speed and idle. Power was significantly reduced and the engine was running very rough.

Lifters and camshaft failure, loud clanking, & sudden power loss on the 6.2 motor are the first noticeable signs. Instantly when everything happened check engine light, cruise control, & stabilizer lights flashed. The sudden loss of power forced the vehicle to suddenly slow down forcing my camper into the truck. I was hauling a within weight standerd camper but had difficulty bringing both the truck with the camper to a safe stop. There were no early signs or signal prior to sudden cautostrophic engine failure & all service records have been completed by a GM certified service dealer.

The contact owns a 2026 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to maintain automotive power and was a potential safety risk for his wife and children. The message "Shift to Park and Restart Vehicle” was displayed. The vehicle was shifted into park(P) and back into drive(D) as a temporary fix. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer on several occasions to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 700.

Catastrophic engine failure at 77357 miles. I went to the local GM dealer and my VIN is not in the L87 engine recall. Not sure how to repair my truck , but feel like the engine should not have locked up with such low miles, and I done constant engine maintenance , meaning oil changes every 5K miles.

The front left frame that the wheel and suspension bolt onto is in advanced rust stages. It is being considered unsafe to drive although the right side is still considered safe. Common issue from what I have heard. Took car in to replace the starter and shop doesnwant to work on it. We cannot afford a new vehicle because of a knkwn weakness in the frame work

After numerous attempts getting GM to finally look at why my vehicle because after the L87 engine swap, which failed after the Pico test and oil, oil filter, and oil cap change my truck has been dangerous to drive. It falls on its face when taking off or driving. It acts as if something is holding the truck back. It takes more throttle to get it moving. Then in traffic while moving it randomly lunges forward very quickly as if I have the gas pedal to the floor. I came very close to rear ending a Deer Park police vehicle. They told me to get my own alternate transportation and they would then look at it. I had to go out and get a rental car. I had no choice. I explained due to my HIGH medical bills following a cancer diagnosis, I could not afford a rental and my appointments. They basically told me come see them when i can make my arrangements. So, i rented a car, took the truck in, four days later i was told that the problem was my ADAS camera. I told them it worked fine before yall had it 3 months waiting on an engine. They told me I would have to pay around 1000 dollars to have my truck repaired. Even though it was clearly something they did. I made arrangements to pay them. I picked up my truck. That evening I was happy. Well, the next morning while going to get coffee the problem returned. I took it back to the dealer. I was again told, go get another rental and leave it here. I have done that. Well, that week went by. I had to borrow money to get the rental for another week. So, i could make it to my cardiologist today. I have to get cardiac clearance before i begin surgery Oct. 1st. Between now and then, i have an appt with pain mgmt., A PET scan, and an Echo/Doppler for cardiac clearance. Surgery begins Oct. 1st. This has been making it very difficult to manage appts. with Gastrointerology, Cardiology, Oncology, Infusion services, Pain mgmt., Therapy with a Psychiatrist, My new Esophogealist (for surgery). And follow-ups and blood tests. This is ongoing.

Coolant Control Valve failure. This vehicle year is included in a GM bulletin that extends the Coolant Control Valve replacement coverage to 150K miles due to a faulty design. My is valve failing exactly as described in the bulletin and GM will not cover the replacement due to my vin number. The vehicle randomly goes into reduced power whereby it is prohibited from safely keeping up with traffic. Research shows that there are a significant number of owners in my same situation where GM is denying repair and replacement coverage.
