ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On 12/2/2024 my vehicle abruptly alerted and auto braked while drive <25mph on residential street while attempting to drive in between two parked cars. Plenty of room but system thought there was going to be a crash. Another vehicle was traveling behind me and also had to stop fast in order not to hit me because of the emergency braking. Truck almost came to a full stop but brakes released and was able to continue driving. This is after I had a mandatory software update that was supposed to improve the over aggressive auto/emergency braking feature. I have since had to disable the braking portion of the system and leave it on audio alert only. Not functioning as designed and unsafe.

LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Blind spot monitor system continues to give false alerts when no vehicles, objects or other items within blind spot area. Warning light will sometimes stay on for many miles and will go off when I pass another vehicle then go back on when nothing in blind spot again (opposite of design). System will sometime not activate when vehicle is in blind spot. See video. Dealer and GM involved, had PIT6103 performed, replaced all switches April 19, 2024 except for driver door. Issue seemed to improve but has returned and even worse that originally. This has become a safety concern for me as I will apply turn signal, look in mirror, over shoulder but then as I start to switch lanes, the mirror light will start blinking and alerting me there is something in blind spot when there isn't anything there. Causes me to abruptly swerve back into my original lane causing potential dangerous situation. Truck at dealer 12/10/2024 for same issue, dealer and GM tech service states vehicle operating as intended. Was told to either turn system off or live with it. While addressing the Headlamp Flicker recall N242468880 another problem was caused. The Drivers side headlamp is always on high-beam There is no way to turn it off. I have had two incidents where oncoming traffic has crossed the double yellow line. The dealer states that the entire headlight mist be replaced and it is on backorder with no expected date of availability. This 2024 GMC Canyon is blinding oncoming traffic and is a risk to myself, my passengers, and oncoming traffic. I have a case open with GM and it has accomplished nothing. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
While driving, a fire started inside the vehicle between the rear passenger side seat belt and the rear window. My daughters were in the back seat and started screaming. I immediately stopped the vehicle and ran to put the fire out by smothering and throwing water on it. There was zero warning...no lights or warning messages. No major injuries occurred (only small minor burns to my right hand). I then brought the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased. I was told it was a known issue, and I was prompted to file a claim with my insurance company. Someone from the insurance company, along with the service department at the dealership, inspected the vehicle. Insurance has agreed to cover the parts damaged but not replace the part(s) that actually caused the fire. The dealership will address the actual problem, but only if I pay for the repairs ($1100-1500 estimated cost).

When the right turn signal cancels after completing a right turn, the left turn signal activates, flashing 3 times. This appears to be the result of a defective design with the turn signal level. The dealer has acknowledged the problem and has stated that there is a bulletin from GM from several months ago which does not provide any resolution to the issue. This is a safety issue since the turn signals are not operating correctly, which could confuse other drivers.

Subject: Urgent Safety Concern Regarding 2023 GMC Canyon Fuel Pump Module Failure I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue I experienced with my 2023 GMC Canyon, which has only 3,000 miles on the odometer. On November 12, 2024, while traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in Florida, my vehicle unexpectedly lost all power. All electronics, including the dashboard and display screens, shut off, and the engine stalled. I was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder, directly on the bridge section of I-75 over U.S. 301. With less than 12 inches of clearance between my driver’s side and passing traffic, this situation posed a severe risk to my safety. To make matters worse, the tow truck driver was unable to safely and properly secure my vehicle due to the danger presented by the high-speed traffic. My vehicle has now been at the GMC dealership for seven days, and I have been informed that the issue was caused by a faulty fuel pump module. I believe this represents a critical safety defect that warrants immediate attention and possibly a recall. Upon further research, I have found similar reports of fuel pump module failures in online forums, indicating that this may be a widespread issue affecting other owners across the country. In addition, when the tow truck dropped my vehicle off at the GMC dealership, after reading the engine codes the dealership found 18 active engine codes. I feel as if this is a possible known issue and I should have been informed when purchasing the vehicle. I kindly request your assistance in addressing this matter. I urge GMC to investigate the extent of this defect and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all affected vehicles and their drivers. Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter. Please let me know how GMC plans to proceed. I am available to provide additional information or documentation if needed.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that when applying the brake pedal, the steering wheel would begin shaking. The computer on the center council that displays information, had blacked out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake pads had failed. The dealer had completed a software update for the main computer however the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired due to the brake pads (Part Number 87850375) not being in production for repairs. The failure had become more persistent and now the brakes have failed. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part for the repair was unavailable even for purchase. The parts were on national backorder. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the dealer and the manufacturer confirmed that the part was unavailable. The failure mileage was unknown.

SEATS
The back seat is not secured tightly. When the bottom seat is down, and should be locked, there is 3-4 inches of play when lifting up on the bottom seat. It does not seem to lock properly. I told the dealership about it, and they compared it to another vehicle on the lot that did the same thing. They did not seem concerned, but if a latch is defective, anyone in the backseat could be harmed if the latch fails during an emergency stop or accident.

LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Continues to give false alerts even on single lane roads or will not detect vehicles at all. Intermittent issue but happens frequently. Both mirror but mostly passenger side. Becoming safety issue by not knowing if something is there or not. It flashes and alerts me aggressively when it thinks something is there and I turn on my turn signal. Been at dealer three times, TSB performed to replace driver window switch but issue still present. Dealer says they have no fix.

Where to begin... As I bought my first truck, literally within 10 days after buying the GMC Canyon 2024, the car is shaking uncontrollably on the highway... 35 MPH max speed, extremely dangerous situation, 8 AM on a busy Watterson Expressway in Louisville, KY. I was so scared I was going to crash and potentially get hurt or worse. They told me "they had never seen this happen to a Canyon before" which is obviously a lie. The car was serviced for 21 calendar days, and now my lights are spotty and I can't drive my car at night. I got this truck [XXX]. There was no communication on when it was to be ready. There are issues with a lot of minor things as well like the navigation systems. I have logged every call with the Dealership, Courtesy Buick GMC in Louisville as well as summarized every point of contact, and with very spotty responses and the manager, Frank, wont respond to my emails and was extremely uncooperative as I asked to trade it in as I was genuinely concerned about my safety and he told me absolutely not. I use the right turn signal to make a right turn at an intersection. I proceed with the turn and begin to accelerate out of the turn, as the steering wheel unturns the right turn signal is supposed to cancel as the steering wheel straightens out. Instead of cancelling the signal, straightening the wheel when accelerating out of a right turn cause the left turn signal to be triggered and in gives three signal indications for a left turn. These left turn indications are uncommanded by the driver. The issue is repeatable. It presents a serious safety concern because other drivers are being told by the truck that you intend to do something which you are not at all intending to do. Another driver could rely on these uncommand left turn indications and pull in front of the truck and cause an accident. This issue has been raised with two dealerships, one dealership replaced the turn signal triggering and cancelling mechanism in the steering column. Both dealers ultimately told me that the issue was "software" relating and that it could not be fixed. One of the dealership claimed to have "corrected the issue with a software update." That assertion was a lie, the issue remained unchanged. This issue is a serious safety issue. The truck has a defect that puts me, my family, and other drivers on the road at risk. So far, GMC has failed to remedy the "software" issue and merely returns to me a defective vehicle.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The fuel gauge on the vehicle does not appear to read accurately. The distance to empty reading varies on every refuel regardless if the same amount of fuel is filled in the vehicle. I believe this is a safety issue because a driver can run out of gas causing an accident due to inaccurate fuel gauge readings. I’ve taken to the dealership and have been told they cannot reproduce the complaint and it remains defective. I’m hoping if others experience the same complaint then a recall may be activated.

Turn signal not working properly and GM has not issued a solution to dealerships. Issue: When you use your turn signal to change lanes or turn onto a new street, the turn signal will flash to let drivers know. However, when you turn off your turn signal manually or the truck turns off the turn signal automatically when you turn the corner, instead of the turn signal stopping, it starts flash in the opposite direction by itself and eventually stops. This can be confusing for drivers and could result in an accident if someone thinks you are signalling and then go in a different direction.

STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
While driving out of a parking lot, my power steering stopped working and I had to regain control to manually steer the vehicle. After stopping and turning off the engine to check the serpentine belt, the power steering came back on, but the lane departure assist function was no longer working. It appears to be the same problem that some of the 2015 and other GMC Canyon models had. Took it to my GMC dealer for warranty evaluation.

i have had this truck 3 months and already had software problems and now I had to drive to Hammond LA after dark and the headlights were blinking, going up and down. I was passing an 18 wheeler and the light beam went up and i almost went under the 18 wheeler. God was with me for sure.. i have not received any info on the recall and went by the dealership where I bought it and they sAid I would have to wait until I get a notice in the mail. so now I cannot drive at night and I need to. what is a person suppose to do?

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, he observed the headlights flickering. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V673000 (Exterior Lighting); but the vehicle had already been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.

Vehicle was brought in 5/18/24 for check engine light Dealer eventually found broken wire in headliner on right side Dealer repaired wire and I picked up vehicle 5/22/24. Vehicle was brought in 7/29/24 for park assist code dealer found short in wire. Dealer stated that to fix wire would require taking cab and bed off frame. Dealer ran a new wire along frame to avoid fixing properly. Vehicle picked up 8/1/24. Vehicle brought in 9/10/24 for a variety of sensors activated. Dealer stated to me that anti-lock brake module was on NATIONAL back order and not expected until 10/28/24. Ut was not safe to drive the vehicle, and they have had the vehicle from 9/10/24. Also, drivers power window module has to be replaced. This 2024 Canyon has been a problem. I have contacted GM and asked for a buyback of the vehicle which GM refused
