SummarySome 2018-2019 F-150 and Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a light to moderate knocking type noise at idle (600-700 RPM) that is sometimes described as a quiet diesel type sound. The noise is usually more prominent on the passenger side of the vehicle toward the rear of the engine. As the engine comes up to operating temperature, the noise level increases slightly. This noise is not detrimental to engine function and has no short or long term effects on engine durability. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted. Refer to the Service Procedure

SummarySome 2018-2019 F-150 and Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine built on or before 30-Apr-2019 may exhibit a chirping type noise from the upper engine front cover area at warm or hot idle. This noise may sound similar to a front engine accessory drive (FEAD) chirp noise. This may be due to the primary timing chain tensioner oil pressure relief valve. To correct the condition, replace the primary timing chain tensioners. Follow the Service Procedure.

SummarySome 2013-2019 vehicles equipped with a EVDC air conditioning (A/C) compressor may exhibit poor A/C performance/improper climate function and/or a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P06A0 in the powertrain control module (PCM). To support the proper diagnosis of this compressor, the EVDC control valve tester has been developed and is available from Rotunda (339-EVDC100). A tester has been provided to each U.S. dealership free of charge with shipments completed 19-Apr-2019 (reference EFC07013 on FMCDealer.com). This tester will help reduce the potential for misdiagnosis and unnecessary compressor replacement. Make sure that this tester is used for warranty repairs and document the test results in the Technician Comments field. Refer to the Rotunda catalog for a video and user manual which provide detailed operating instructions.

SummarySome 2018-2019 F150, Expedition, and Navigator vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0365 and/or P0369 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to low engine oil level, low engine oil pressure, or worn/damaged variable camshaft timing (VCT) units. Before performing Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual diagnostics, inspect the engine oil level and evaluate any abnormal VCT noise conditions. If engine oil level is correct and no unusual engine noises are present, proceed with normal diagnostics per PC/ED pinpoint test (PPT) DR.

SummarySSM 47922 - Various Vehicles - 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost Engine - Oil Filter Service Tip When servicing the oil filter on vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoostengine it is critical to inspect the oil filter housing center stem to verify is not separated or damaged. If the center stem is damaged or separated from the housing this will result in oil flow through the reservoir drain port causing low engine oil pressure and internal engine damage. If the filter housing stem is damaged or separated, the oil filter housing must be replaced. If the center stem is not damaged or separated, the O-ring seals on the stem and housing must be replaced each time the filter is serviced.

This noise may sound similar to a front engine accessory drive (FEAD) chirp noise. If the noise persists with the FEAD belt removed and is isolated to the front cover area, this noise may be due to the primary timing chain tensioner. This noise will not result in any engine durability concerns. Do not attempt any repairs at this time. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.

SummarySSM 47903 - 2018-2019 F-150/F-Super Duty/Transit - Rear Axle Pinion Seal Fluid Leak/Seepage Some 2018-2019 F-150, F-Super Duty, and Transit vehicles may exhibit the appearance of a fluid leak or seepage from the rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of a fluid leak or seepage on a vehicle with less than 500 miles or less than 3 months in service may not be due to a failed rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of fluid around the seal may be from the axle assembly being shipped to the vehicle assembly plant with the pinion facing down. To determine if a leak is present, clean the seal area of any residual lubricant and visually inspect the pinion seal for leaks or damage in the seal contact area or dust slinger on the pinion flange dust shield. If no concerns are found, run the vehicle on a hoist in DRIVE at idle speeds for 10 minutes to allow the fluid to circulate and recheck for signs of leakage.
