- #11561707December 24, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Adaptive cruise failed just over 2k miles following another vehicle under 60mph and sped up to set cruise of 75 and would have hit the truck if I didn’t stop it, I took video of failure directly after the incident. First bolt EUV camera failed more than once even after it was replaced, that car was bought back under battery recall. My point is, it’s a continued issue. With lane keep assist you must always be prepared for it not to function, it doesn’t always work and have to cycle the on/off button (same with previous EUV too). While in super cruise in my current vehicle it tried to locate the left lane but a big rig was on the line and my car appeared it was going to hit the truck multiple times within a few seconds as each time I had to bring the car back to the center until I turned it off. I have parts on order but I personally don’t believe that will be the end of based upon my two vehicles.

- #11557050November 27, 2023FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
While merging onto a highway with a 60 mph speed limit, we got an error message that there was a propulsion system error and our speed was limited to 30 mph. Our car slowed down and could not accelerate. There was no warning before the speed was limited and no way to change course. It was Saturday night Nov. 25th and we had our one and half year old daughter in the backseat. Thank god my husband was able to react quickly and that there was shoulder for us to pull over on. Honestly we could have been killed or seriously injured. It’s a huge safety issue that the car will suddenly, without any warning, prevent you from going above a certain speed. The purpose is to protect the car, as I understand it, but there should at the very least be a countdown. I’m incredibly grateful I can report this to and that there wasn’t a tragic accident, but if this how this feature operates, it only a matter of time before there is one. Also there is less than 1000 miles on our car.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Transmission Fluid Pump failed, and is needing to be replaced. The car only had 200 miles on it and was bought 5 days prior before the issue began. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The car immediatley reduced my speed to 30mph. I was driving on an expressway, and caused me to slow traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yea, I have the error code given to me by OnStar: P2797 Auxilliary Transmission Fluid Pump error Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been brought into a Chevrolet service center and awaiting for a replacement part from GM. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The check engine light came on and then the car immediately slowed my speed.

At less than 300 miles on odometer and while charging at a level 2 charger I checked my Chevy app and saw a warning for service airbag system. I had just checked it 15 mins prior and it was not on. Now it has an airbag light on…at 291 miles on the car. In car it says service safety restraint system. Still have to make a 200 mile trip back to my town in a couple days. Definitely frustrating for a car I have only had a week.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - I believe it is the electrical component, or wiring component that is under the hood. It spontaneously caught on fire in the middle of the night with no indication of arson or outside source. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Definitely a safety concern since how would anyone know if their car will not spontaneously catch on fire while driving, parked, inside a garage? Not only my own safety concern, but for my family and neighboring houses/cars' safety as well. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? GM Claims department only stated that they went by NFPA921-2021. However, no detailed report was produced, or at least they say it never did, even though we requested more than two dozen times. And evidently, just closed the case without giving us a valid reasoning or evidence of anything. And as for the NFPA921-2021, it is two years old already. Please keep in mind that GM had this car for almost 3 months for investigation but no report, reasoning, or any valid understanding for a consumer's point of view. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? GM said they did but no investigation report or work report or anything related to that has been provided. NO EVIDENCE, NO TRAIL, NO INVESTIGATION REPORT. Only denial letter. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear None of the warnings were shown prior to this. 3 months of investigation from GM, but no reports, no investigation report was produced or provided. How can we as a consumer, believe what they are doing is valid and fair?

- #11547019September 28, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
We were driving slowly in Los Angeles traffic, trying to pick up a little speed, when the car suddenly seized up -- as it seemed to slam its brakes. We nearly had heart attacks, because there was traffic behind us, and the car behind us could easily have slammed into us. We didn't notice anything on the dash. We don't believe the car was trying to warn us about an imminent forward collision, because there were no "beep beep beeps" as there typically are when it senses a forward threat. Just a sudden breaking, and then it was fine again. Happy to have anyone inspect the car upon request, though I have my doubts they'd find anything. Note that there are already several other complaints about this car that have reported exactly the same problem. It really should be investigated!

- #11545606September 20, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Moving at 3mph on slow freeway offramp, my Bolt EUV suddenly braked by itself for no apparent reason. I was at no time in danger of colliding with the car in front of me. However, the driver behind almost rear-ended me when surprised by the sudden braking and sounded his horn. Control Modules scanned at Culver City Chevrolet. No Diagnostic Trouble Codes detected. Problem not confirmed by dealer. An earlier incident of emergency self-braking occurred in May when traversing a speed hump at normal speed where no other vehicles were present. These are the only two instances of self-braking, both unexpected and unnecessary, during the first 5 months/2400 miles of new car ownership. Car is available for inspection upon request.

- #11545319September 19, 2023ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN
I drove the vehicle roughly 5 miles on city streets then parked and walked away for roughly 15 minutes. I came back, got in the car, powered it on and attempted to shift but was presented an error message stating “Conditions not correct for shift”. The car seemed to be ‘running’, but the AC did not turn on despite the settings displaying that it was operating. Thankfully I was able to shut down the car after a few minutes and, after waiting a few minutes further, power it back up. This is the first time this has happened to me. Additional details: Mileage: <900 Age: ~2 months At first I thought this could be due to my own behavior. I live in the Southwest (desert). This is possibly the first time I haven’t remotely started the car and let it precondition, but that seems slightly irrelevant given that this happened at night (not baking in the sun) and, before the 10 minutes of rest, the vehicle should have theoretically been ‘conditioning’ during the previous drive.

- #11544123September 12, 2023ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN
Frightening SAFETY Problem: Sudden Power loss on Los Angeles freeway. About 6/21/2023 began repeated episodes where my Chevy 2023 Bolt EUV hesitated for a few seconds before responding when I pushed on the accelerator pedal. Full power and acceleration resumed right after the initial hesitation and were sustained until I had to stop the car. A dashboard warning light appeared. I called for an On-Demand Diagnostic evaluation, spoke by phone with Chevrolet support who assisted with the evaluation and emailed me the results (screenshot) indicating an issue with the HCP - Hybrid Control Processor Module and a Diagnostic Code P2797. The Diagnostic Information read: "The Electric Drive Unit is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Auxiliary Transmission Pump System..." The “Recommended Action” was to “Service within 7 days.” (Screenshot) I contacted the dealership where I purchased the car and was told that I would have to leave it for several days before evaluation/servicing could be done. However the next morning (before I could take the car to the dealership) the instrument panel alert had disappeared. So I considered it all a temporary "glitch". Then on 8/27, driving about 60MPH on very busy 405 Freeway in Los Angeles, the car suddenly lost most of its power and slowed down…with an orange dashboard warning icon “Propulsion Power is Reduced” and another message that speed limited to 30 MPH. Alarmed and fearful, I turned on emergency blinker lights, moved to right lane and exited freeway at next off-ramp. The problem persisted as I slowly drove surface streets to destination and parked. Several hours later I started car; alert message came on but car accelerated normally. I slowly drove home on surface streets. On 8/29 another Chevy dealership identified "Scanning Code P2797" and "Replaced Transmission Fluid Pump” by warranty coverage. No problem since. Service manager said she has seen 3 similar problems. I see similar reports online.

- #11538678August 15, 2023EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Brake lights are too low on vehicle - middle lights are only running lights. Drivers behind vehicle in stop and go traffic must rely on high mounted third brake light mounted at peak of vehicle roof line, especially difficult for larger vehicles (SUVs, Trucks) to see low mounted brakes, with expectation that the middle lights will indicate braking. Multiple reports and complains regarding this issue are posted online and also in this database.

I, and many other owners of Chevy Bolts are having our speed suddenly reduced without warning. The vehicle immediately drops to a max speed of 30 mph and gives an error message "Propulsion Power is Reduced". One common cause seems to be defective transmission fluid pumps, although other electrical and mechanical components also seem to cause this problem. One common error code seems to be P2797, along with the "Propulsion Power is Reduced" message. This dangerous speed reduction is sometimes happening in dangerous situations, while driving in heavy traffic and at high speeds on highways. This is an incredibly dangerous defect and could easily cause car accidents, injuries or death. People are also being stranded without warning. There are many posts (dozens+) about this on various owners groups, including Reddit, Facebook groups and others. The Bolt brake lights and turn signals are also placed in very bad locations which are not obvious or visible, which is also incredibly dangerous.

Was driving along and received a “Propulsion Power Reduced” warning on dash and couldn’t go over 30mph while on a highway. Had to limp along on the shoulder. Pushed the OnStar button and they ran a diagnostic test which came back with P2797.
