Several 2023 BMW models now feature a new infotainment system called iDrive 8. This new iDrive 8 contains a crucial bug that I believe affects the safety of the driver. This new infotainment system randomly loses the car’s exact GPS location, which makes the car think it’s somewhere else. The location marker just slowly drifts away from its real coordinates to nearby roads for example, without any warning or indication. The problem occurs randomly with no identifiable pattern. When connected to Apple Carplay, the iPhone uses the car’s location. If the problem (location drift) occurs while driving in the city, the driver might receive false directions from the navigation app due to the wrong GPS location, which might lead to wrong way turns into one-way streets. Furthermore, since the car thinks it is located somewhere different than its real location, in the event of an accident or whenever the SOS button is engaged, first responders will get a false location of the car. For example, the car might be on the highway but first responders will get a location indicating the car is in the middle of a nearby lake. Since iPhone uses a car-provided location, in the event of an accident the iPhone 14’s crash detection feature will also be sending first responders an incorrect location. To sum it up, the new infotainment system keeps randomly losing the car’s real location, which leads navigation apps to give the driver wrong directions when using Apple Carplay, which might lead to death if the driver gets instructed to do a wrong-way turn into a one-way street for example. In the event of a crash, the car will be sending wrong coordinates to first responders which might cause significant delays to their response and might lead to the death of the injured people. BMW acknowledged the problem, said there’s no fix at the moment and no timeline for a fix.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
While I was driving down the highway, sunroof has exploded without any apparent reason. I really didn’t realize what had happened at first, all I heard was a loud bang which could’ve lead to distraction and cause an accident. Luckily it wasn’t the case for me. Although, broken pieces of the sunroof has came off and flown to roadway. I brought the vehicle to BMW dealership, by the time I got there there was an apparent hole in the sunroof, they inspected it and saying it happened because something making contact with sunroof but when I asked for a proof for their claim they told me there is no physical evidence to provide.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
When driving the car when dark enough to activate auto headlights and raining enough to activate auto wipers, after 20 minutes the following message comes on the screen EVERYTIME: Drive Assistance temporarily limited Lane departure also turns on and off while driving in these conditions Also attached are BMW's response after inspecting the car on 3 separate occasions

AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Message on Console - " Passenger Restraint system malfunction ". Took vehicle in for Repair; BMW Dealership "thinks" it may be a wiring harness electrical short. They evidently need to discuss problem with BMW Corporate to figure out to properly diagnose problem and how to repair. My husband and I are very concerned about driving this car even after it may be "so called" repaired. We are concerned that if an accident does occur, and one or more of the airbags do not deploy; there may be serious injury or death to myself, my husband, grandkids, or other passengers.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
Engine Wiring is made of Soy products with attracts Rodents to feed and destroy the wiring. When this occurs it puts the driver ad passengers in danger because certain functions such as brake light, Headlights and windshield wipers may not work properly. This is becasue when the wiring is compromised , circuits are broken which causes the vehicle's systems connected to that circuit to partially or completely fail, Rending a vehicle partially or completely inoperable. The vehicle was inspected the the BMW dealership service center and they confirmed it was rodent damage . Geico insurance also inspected the vehicle. The vehicle started to restrict engine performance and the Engine service light came on stating there was a Drive Tran malfunction.

My sunroof exploded randomly, without warning as I was traveling on the highway at approximately 65 MPH. There was no impact from an object. The cloth cover beneath the sunroof was fully intact and undamaged after the incident.

POWER TRAIN
car had 1,645 miles rear left axle broke. Car would not move. Had this occurred on a highway I easily could have been rear ended. Part must have been defective, Dealer replaced the part left rear CV joint but not the right, nor did the dealer confirm both rear axles were not from the same batch. The failure was catastrophic and sudden with no warnings.
