Why This Matters: Safety Risk

Nissan has identified a critical safety concern with certain 2021-2022 Nissan Sentra vehicles. The tie rod's strength may be insufficient under specific real-world conditions involving high input force. This can cause the left and right side tie rods to bend.

A bent tie rod can severely impair the driver's ability to steer the vehicle. Owners may notice the steering wheel is off-center and/or experience vibration. In the most severe cases, a broken tie rod can lead to a complete loss of vehicle control, posing a significant crash risk.

What's Being Recalled

This voluntary safety recall campaign, identified as R23B3, affects certain 2021-2022 Nissan Sentra vehicles. A total of 236,238 vehicles are included in the affected population, with 88 units currently in dealer inventory also subject to the recall.

The issue specifically involves the vehicle's tie rods, which may not be robust enough to withstand certain forces, leading to bending or breakage.

Important Warnings for Owners and Dealers

Nissan and federal regulations have issued strict guidelines regarding this Nissan Sentra tie rod recall:

• "IMPORTANT: It is a violation of Federal law for dealers to sell or deliver new vehicles in their inventory covered by this notification until the campaign's remedy action is performed."
• "Dealers must not sell, lease, trade, rent or loan any vehicles in dealer inventory affected by this recall campaign until after the vehicle has been remedied."
• If your steering wheel is off-center and/or you experience vibration, Nissan advises you to "contact your local Nissan dealer for immediate instructions on how to transport your vehicle to the dealership."

Manufacturer's Remedy

To address the Nissan Sentra tie rod recall, dealers will replace both the left-hand and right-hand tie rods with countermeasure parts. This service will be performed free of charge for both parts and labor.

The repair is estimated to take approximately two hours to complete. Parts for this campaign, referenced under bulletin NTB23-078, became available for ordering via normal processes starting August 9, 2024. Rental vehicles are available upon customer request while parts are on order.

Owners of 2021-2022 Nissan Sentra vehicles can verify if their car is part of this Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign by contacting their Nissan dealer. Dealers use Service Comm or DBS National Service History, referencing Campaign I.D. R23B3, to check applicability.

Owner Notification

Nissan mailed interim notification letters to affected owners in October 2023. Invitation to repair notification letters, detailing when and where to bring vehicles for the repair, are scheduled to be mailed in Winter 2025 via U.S. Mail.
