What is the Kia Maintenance Reminder Feature?

The Kia Maintenance Reminder Feature is designed to inform owners when their next scheduled maintenance service is due. This "Service Interval Reminder" helps ensure that vehicles receive timely service, which can contribute to vehicle longevity and performance. It's an important tool for proactive vehicle care.

Important Information for Owners

It's crucial for owners to understand that the "Service Interval Reminder" is NOT set from the factory. This means that if it hasn't been configured by a dealer or yourself, your vehicle will not automatically notify you of upcoming maintenance. Setting this reminder is an integral part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process, where technicians check instrument panel cluster functions and head unit settings.

When to Set the Reminder

The "Service Interval Reminder" should be set or adjusted under several conditions to ensure accuracy. These include when finalizing a new or used vehicle delivery, after routine maintenance service, following an engine repair requiring an engine oil and filter change, or after replacing or reprogramming the instrument cluster or head unit. For 2023MY vehicles equipped with the Oil Life Management System (OLMS) feature, refer to TSB ENG241.

Driving Conditions Affecting Service Intervals

Kia recommends adjusting the "Service Interval Reminder" to a "SEVERE" setting if the vehicle is frequently operated under certain conditions. These conditions include low-speed driving, frequent stop-and-go traffic, repeated short drives (less than 5 miles), driving on uphill/downhill or mountainous roads, operating in heavy dust, very cold areas, or commercial driving (e.g., ride-sharing, delivery services). If your driving habits match any of these, your vehicle may require more frequent maintenance than the standard schedule.

Important Warnings

During vehicle PDI for certain 2020-2023MY vehicles, the Kia Maintenance Reminder Feature may create a dashboard display message advising the customer of their next service. However, the "Service Reminder 'Error'" message may not be automatically set. If this occurs, manual entry into the IP cluster is required. Additionally, the mileage may not set properly if the service interval is already configured or if the vehicle mileage exceeds 62 miles on select models with CAN-based security lockout.

How to Set the Service Interval Reminder (Instrument Cluster)

Most Kia vehicles allow you to set the "Service Interval Reminder" using the steering wheel controls and the instrument cluster display. First, press the MENU hard key on the steering wheel. Navigate through the instrument panel display to "User Settings" and select "Service Interval" by pressing OK. You can then adjust the desired mileage and months for the next service interval. After setting these values, confirm by selecting "Yes" to save the settings. A confirmation screen displaying "Service Interval saved" will appear, though this screen may not be present on all models.

How to Set the Service Interval Reminder (Head Unit)

For some models, the "Service Interval Reminder" is set via the head unit touch screen. Begin by pressing the SETUP hard key on the head unit. Using the touch screen, scroll to "Cluster" and select "Service Interval." Ensure the "Service Interval" checkbox is enabled, then select "Distance" to enter the recommended mileage for your next service. After entering the mileage, select "Duration" to input the recommended time in months. Once both are set, the "Service Interval reminder" is configured. Note that months entered will display as days on the screen.
