2024 Jeep Wrangler PCM Update for MIL and DTCs

This TSB has also been released as Rapid Service Update (RSU) 24-109, effective August 1, 2024. Applicable RSU VINs have been pre-loaded for dealer verification.

Symptoms

Customers may experience a lit Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):

• P08A6 - Gear Lever Position Sensor System - Multiple Sensor Correlation.
• P0032 - O2 - Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit High.
• P0038 - O2 - Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit High.
• P0052 - O2 - Sensor 2/1 Heater Circuit High.
• P0058 - O2 - Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit High.
• P1129 - Closed Loop Fueling Not Achieved-Banks 2 Upstream.
• P0152 - O2 Sensor 2/1 Circuit High.
• P0158 - O2 Sensor 2/2 Heater Circuit High.
• P2504 - Charging System Output High.
• P0563 - System Voltage High.

In addition to these codes, owners might report other symptoms such as the vehicle running rough, or a "Service Transmission” message appearing in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Some vehicles may also experience a transfer case mis-shift during flat towing (with the engine running and clutch pedal up, transmission in gear).

Other software enhancements included in this update address vehicle no-starts after PCM replacement, O2 heater crack improvements, and general OBD software changes.

Important Warnings for the Repair Process

When performing the 2024 Jeep Wrangler PCM update, technicians must observe the following critical instructions:

• Battery Charger Requirement: Install a battery charger to ensure the battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
• Flash Interruption: If the flash process is interrupted or aborted for any reason, the flash procedure should be restarted from the beginning.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair for these conditions involves reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with the latest available software. This procedure is performed by a qualified technician using a wiTECH diagnostic tool.

1. VIN Verification: The technician will first check if the vehicle's VIN is listed on the Rapid Service Update (RSU) VIN list. If it is, they proceed to verify the current PCM software level.
2. Software Level Check: If the PCM already has the latest software, the bulletin is considered completed, and a specific labor operation (18-19-06-KA) is used to close the active RSU.
3. PCM Reprogramming: If the PCM does not have the latest software, or if the vehicle is not on the RSU VIN list but exhibits the symptoms, the PCM will be reprogrammed using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. Any issues during this process require submitting a ticket to the Helpdesk.
4. Post-Reprogramming Check: After reprogramming, the technician will check if any of the specific DTCs (P08A6, P0032, P0052, P0058, or P0038) have returned. If they have, further diagnostics based on published DTC repair procedures are followed.
5. DTC Clearance: Finally, all Diagnostic Trouble Codes that may have been set in any module due to the reprogramming will be cleared using the wiTECH application.

• 18-19-06-KB: Module, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Inspect and Reprogram (0.3 hours).

For vehicles on the RSU VIN list, the failure code RF (Required Flash) is used. For customer concerns matching the symptoms identified in this TSB, the failure code CC (Customer Concern) is used, requiring a 3C's (Concern, Cause, Correction) description.
