Overview of Jeep Corrosion Warranty Claim Simplification

Jeep has issued Warranty Bulletin D-23-04 Rev. H to simplify the corrosion warranty claim process for 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler (JL) and 2021-2024 Jeep Gladiator (JT) vehicles. This revision, dated March 12, 2025, updates procedures for paint repairs and replacement claims, aiming to streamline the process for dealerships and owners. A key change is the inclusion of 2024 model year vehicles in the coverage scope.

Important Owner Information and Warnings

Owners should be aware of several critical points regarding this bulletin:

• Warranty Eligibility: Vehicles that have been in service for more than six years are explicitly "ARE NOT eligible for corrosion warranty."
• Process vs. Coverage: This bulletin represents "a process change communication, not a coverage change." Owners should always verify their specific coverage using DealerCONNECT or wiADVISOR VIP.
• Hinge Replacement: For vehicles with redesigned hinges, these "MUST be replaced as a set (upper and lower per component)" to avoid visual mismatches. However, "Do not replace the hinges on the other doors if no signs of corrosion is found."
• Repair Pre-Approval: For certain repairs, "measurements and the Repair vs Replace worksheet are no longer required, therefore, these repairs do not require pre-approval." Other repairs will still follow Warranty Bulletin D-19-27.
• Image Requirements: When submitting photos, "A clear photo of the corrosion is needed and MUST include the affected body panel. The VIN is no longer required on the photo."
• Sanding Limitations: If corrosion is found on the seam of a panel, leading to door shell replacement, "No additional sanding in the hinge or seam area is supported."

Corrosion Warranty Claims for Active Warranties

For 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2021-2024 Jeep Gladiator vehicles still covered by an active corrosion warranty, the claim process has been simplified. Jeep has eliminated the requirement for Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) pre-approval, measurement requirements, and the Repair vs Replace worksheet for claim support. This change aims to expedite the processing of corrosion-related paint repairs and replacements.

Filiform Corrosion Claims After Warranty Expiration

The bulletin also provides clear guidance for handling Filiform corrosion concerns when the corrosion warranty has expired. The process depends on whether the customer has "valid documentation" of the corrosion concern prior to the warranty's expiration. "Valid documentation" includes any Repair Order (internal or external), Customer Care Case number, or an email to the Business Center.

With Valid Documentation

If an owner has valid documentation describing the corrosion concern from when the warranty was active for their 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator, the repair will likely be completed without a copay. Dealerships are instructed to evaluate and "Accept" the outcome of the Warranty Goodwill Grid, ensuring "$0 must be in the Dealer Adjustment field" before submitting the claim with "RA" in the authorization field.

Without Valid Documentation

If an owner is raising a Filiform corrosion concern after the warranty has expired and lacks valid documentation from the warranty period, they will be responsible for a portion of the repair cost. This cost is determined by the Warranty Goodwill Grid. In this scenario, the dealership will submit the warranty claim with "PA" in the authorization field.

Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) and Claim Submission

Even with simplifications, the VDI process remains crucial for certain aspects of corrosion claims.

VDI Pre-Authorization and Submission

For cases requiring VDI, the dealership must submit a pre-authorization request through the VDI process to verify images of the affected panels. If all necessary information cannot be submitted via the VDI portal, dealerships should email "[email protected]" with the subject line "VIN and Dealer Code". Once VDI approves the information, the dealership must submit a Warranty Goodwill Grid.

Claim Submission Details

When submitting the warranty claim for payment, dealerships must follow the Goodwill Grid bulletin instructions and attach the same information as if the vehicle were still under warranty. If a warranty claim is submitted more than 90 days after the pre-authorization approval, the claim Narrative must include the statement "This repair was previously approved by VDI." Claims should be submitted as a normal Warranty (W) claim, detailing the Technician ID as "none," Part(s) and materials (MATL), Labor (using new Labor Operations only), and RA attachments. Sublet invoices must be submitted and retained. If the sublet bill is less than the claim amount, the claim total must be adjusted in the "adjustment field." Required attachments include "Photos of the affected area and the Placard."

Repair Procedures and New Labor Operations (LOPs)

Jeep has developed new Labor Operations (LOPs) to simplify the claim and estimating process for corrosion repairs. These LOPs include allowances for painting, de-trimming, repair, blending, and seam sealer work for individual panels.

Inspection and Panel Replacement Criteria

A quality inspection of all hinge mounting areas and panel seams should be performed to ensure all corroded areas are addressed. Collision Service Bulletin 31-001-24 outlines two primary reasons for panel replacement:

1. Pitting: Pitting found after sanding the affected area, as illustrated in Figure 1 of the bulletin. If pitting is found, LOP 23-75-XX-XX should be used.
2. Seam Corrosion: Corrosion found on the seam of the panel, as shown in Figure 2. In this case, the door shell will be replaced.

If corrosion is found in both hinge areas and panel edges/bottoms, the entire panel should be replaced. Dealers must take photos of the affected area(s) and the vehicle's placard, which includes the VIN and Paint Code (e.g., Paint Code PW7), as depicted in Figures 3 and 4.

Non-Reimbursable Items

The bulletin specifies items that are "not reimbursable" as part of the material allowance, including:

• Hazardous material disposal fees
• Shop supplies
• Pre and post scans
• Cleaning, waxing, and sanitizing supplies
• Protective covers or storage bags
• Fitting/aligning panels
• Resetting electronics and memory functions
• De-nib and polish
• Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery
• Upgraded anti-corrosion/paint protection
• Body shop administrative fees
• Towing and storage fees
• Additional labor, parts, or services not supported by the Collision Service Bulletin

Specific Labor Operations (LOPs)

To streamline the repair process, new bundled LOPs have been created. These LOPs cover all necessary labor operations for a complete repair.

• Front Door Hinge Area Repair: LOP 23-75-53-02 is designated for repairing a front door hinge area. This LOP bundles all required labor operations.
