This bulletin, issued on June 29, 2024, supersedes the previous TSB 08-112-23 dated April 29, 2023, and includes additional model years and models. The TSB aims to prevent unnecessary replacement of taillamp assemblies by guiding technicians through a diagnostic and clearing process for Jeep taillamp condensation.

This TSB applies to various 2021-2025 Jeep models, including the Compass, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Cherokee. It specifically addresses instances where moisture buildup is observed inside the taillamp lenses.

Symptoms of Taillamp Condensation

Owners may notice that their "vehicle exterior taillamp assemblies are fogged with a light layer of condensation on the inside of the lenses." This Jeep taillamp condensation can appear under several conditions. It might be observed after the lamps have been on and then rapidly cooled by cold water, such as during rain or a vehicle wash.

Additionally, "Lens fogging can also occur under certain atmospheric conditions" after the vehicle has been parked outside overnight. This often happens following a warm, humid day succeeded by a clear, cool night. Typically, this type of condensation will clear as atmospheric conditions change, allowing the moisture to vaporize. Turning the taillamps on can accelerate this clearing process.

Why Taillamp Condensation Occurs

The primary cause of this issue is condensation and moisture buildup within the taillamp assembly. While some condensation is normal due to temperature fluctuations, excessive or persistent moisture can indicate a problem. This TSB provides a method to differentiate between normal condensation and a sealing issue.

Important: When Taillamp Replacement is NOT Needed

Jeep's TSB 08-153-24 emphasizes that not all instances of Jeep taillamp condensation require a full taillamp assembly replacement. If the condensation or fogging begins to clear from the taillamp assembly within 60 minutes of the lamps operating, it indicates that the taillamp sealing has not been breached. In such cases, "the taillamp assembly does not need to be replaced."

Diagnosis and Repair Procedure Summary

For technicians, the TSB outlines a specific procedure to evaluate and clear rear taillamp condensation. The process begins by thoroughly drying any water from the outside surface of the taillamp lens. The vehicle is then started, and the headlamps and hazard lights are turned on, operating the taillamps for 60 minutes in a service bay environment.

During this 60-minute period, the taillamp assembly is checked every 10 minutes. If the condensation clears within this timeframe, the issue is resolved, and no further action is required. When Taillamp Replacement IS Required

If the condensation or fogging has not begun to clear after 60 minutes with the taillamps operating, or if large amounts of water droplets are visible on most internal surfaces, this indicates a more significant problem. This suggests a breach in the taillamp sealing, allowing water to enter. In these instances, the customer is also likely to report that "moisture in the taillamp is always present and never disappears."
