Owners of certain 2021 Hyundai Elantra and Elantra Hybrid vehicles may notice an issue with the paint on their front bumper moldings. Specifically, the dark chrome front bumper moldings may exhibit paint delamination, which appears as peeling or flaking paint.

The primary symptom of this issue is visible paint delamination on the left, right, or lower dark chrome moldings of the front bumper. This can affect the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle and may worsen over time.

This TSB applies to certain 2021 model year Hyundai Elantra (CN7) and Elantra Hybrid (CN7 HEV) vehicles. Affected vehicles have VINs starting with "KMH" and were produced between March 2, 2021, and April 29, 2021. The vehicles must also be equipped with dark chrome front bumper moldings.

Repair Procedure Summary

To address the Hyundai Elantra paint delamination, technicians will perform a front bumper molding replacement. The procedure involves several steps:

1. Preparation: The vehicle's hood is opened, and the front bumper is prepared for removal by detaching various clips and screws located at the top, bottom, and sides of the bumper, including those securing it to the wheel guards.
2. Bumper Removal: The entire front bumper assembly is carefully removed from the vehicle. Special care is taken to disconnect the main connector and avoid damaging locking jaws during this process.
3. Molding Removal: Once the bumper is removed, it is placed face down on a soft surface to prevent scratches. The screws securing the existing side and lower bumper moldings are removed. Using cutting pliers, the locking tabs on the old moldings are cut to facilitate their removal.
