American Honda has issued a critical directive regarding any steering gearbox assembly found to be 'NG' (No Good) after inspection. The communication explicitly states: "DO NOT INSTALL THIS PART." Furthermore, it emphasizes, "IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT RETURNS ARE MADE IMMEDIATELY." Dealers are instructed to return all "NG" 22-24MY Civic STRG G/Box Assy (P/N 53640-T21-305 & 53640-T21-306) in their inventory to American Honda.

Return Process for Steering Gearbox Assemblies

American Honda has outlined a specific process for returning the affected Honda Civic steering gearbox parts, ensuring that these returns will not be charged against the dealer's SRA credit.

For Invoices Within 28 Business Days

If the invoice for the parts is within 28 business days, dealers must follow these steps:

1. Complete the iN-OAR procedures.
2. Use Reason Code "Q" along with the original shipper number.
3. Select "Label Doesn't Match Contents" for the Type of Manufacturing Defect.
4. Enter "Gearbox" in the Remarks Section.
5. Once approved, an "Authorization Return Document" will be available via iN.
6. Return P/N 53640-T21-305 and 53640-T21-306 back to American Honda.

For Invoices Past 28 Business Days

For parts with invoices older than 28 business days, a slightly different procedure applies:

1. Fill out a manual OAR for Q code and include the original invoice number.
2. Email the completed form to the Facing Parts Center OAR mailbox.
3. Once approved, an "Authorization Return Document" will be available via iN.

Important Deadlines and Reimbursement

All Order Adjustment Requests (OARs) related to this quality investigation for the Honda Civic steering gearbox must be submitted by October 23, 2023. If a dealership incurs freight costs for returning the parts, a copy of the freight bill should be included with the return request for reimbursement.
