Repair Procedure Summary

The repair outlined in SIB 54 04 21 involves replacing and bonding the front sunroof glass seal. The procedure requires specialized steps to ensure a proper and lasting fix:

1. Seal Removal: The existing front sunroof glass seal must be carefully removed according to the repair instructions detailed in ISTA/AIR 54 13 052.
2. Surface Preparation: After removing the old seal, technicians must inspect the glass encapsulation for any residual glue. This old glue must be thoroughly removed using denatured alcohol and a clean cloth to ensure a clean bonding surface for the new seal.
3. Adhesive Application: A new seal is then prepared for installation. A 2-inch long bead of adhesive is applied to both sides of the new seal. Crucially, a 1-inch gap must be left from the starting point of the seal before applying the adhesive.
4. Seal Bonding and Reinstallation: The newly prepared seal is then bonded to the glass panel. The reinstallation of the seal is completed by following the repair instructions specified in ISTA/AIR 54 013 052.

To perform this repair, specific tools and parts are necessary:

• Adhesive Applicator: A 48.5 – 50 mL adhesive applicator is required.
• Mixing Nozzles: 50 mL mixing nozzles are also needed for the adhesive.
• Seal Glass Roof Front: Part Number 54 10 5 B32 973 (Quantity: 1).
• 3M Scotch-Weld Urethane Adhesive DP620NS Black: This adhesive (48.5 ml/1.64 fl. oz) is to be sourced locally. BMW reimburses locally sourced supplies at cost plus 20 percent.
