Cause

BMW has identified the root cause of the BMW hood difficult to unlock issue as excessive friction in the hood latch mechanism. This friction can cause the latch to jam, preventing it from fully releasing when the hood lever is operated.

Repair Procedure Summary

Technicians are instructed to follow a multi-step procedure outlined in SIB 51 22 22 to resolve the hood latch issue. This process begins with an initial inspection and progresses to lubrication, adjustment, and potential component replacement:

1. Initial Inspection: First, inspect the vehicle for any prior front-end bodywork. Such repairs could contribute to operational issues with the hood release function.
