2021-2023 Audi A3/S3/TT/TTS Transmission Oil Leak TSB

Owners of 2021-2023 Audi A3, S3, TT, and TTS models equipped with the OGC Transmission may notice an oil leak under the front of their vehicle. This issue is addressed by Audi Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2067365/1, released on July 11, 2022. The TSB provides detailed instructions for diagnosing and repairing oil leaks originating from the area near the transmission oil cooler.

Symptoms

Owners may experience the following symptom:

• "An oil leak is noticed under the front of the vehicle."

Workshop findings indicate that the oil leak is typically traced to the seam of the transmission oil cooler case (as shown in Figure 1 of the TSB).

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

To properly diagnose the Audi S3 oil leak, technicians will first thoroughly clean and dry the transmission and oil cooler area. An oil leak detection spray (part number G 001 900 A1 or equivalent) is then applied to the gearbox housing. A short road test is performed to warm up the gearbox to at least 80°C (176°F) engine oil temperature, allowing the leak to reappear.

If the leak cannot be traced to the gear oil cooler/separating joint, this TSB does not apply, and further diagnosis for other oil leak sources is required. If the leak is clearly traced to the gear oil cooler at the separating joint, photographic documentation is required for warranty records.

Important Warnings

• Never use leak detection dyes in Audi transmissions.

Repair Procedure Summary

For Audi A3 vehicles, the 12-volt battery and battery tray must be removed as per the Workshop Manual. This step is not necessary for Audi TT models with a trunk-mounted battery. Technicians will then remove a specific bolt for the housing (as illustrated in Figure 2 of the TSB) and check for an oil film in the bolt hole or on the bolt threads.

There are two potential repair options based on this inspection:

• Repair Option 1 (Bolt Replacement): If an oil film is present, the existing bolt is replaced with a new pan head bolt w/ multi-point drive, self-locking (part number N 107 443 04). This new bolt is tightened to a torque of 20 Nm + 90° (Figure 3 of the TSB). The transmission oil level is checked and topped up if necessary.
• Repair Option 2 (Gearbox Replacement): If no oil film is found in the hole or on the bolt, the entire gearbox must be replaced according to the repair manual.

After either repair, a short test drive is performed to warm up the gearbox. Following a waiting period of at least one hour, the gearbox housing is re-inspected. If no further leaks are present, the vehicle can be returned to the customer.

Technicians will require the following parts and tools for this Audi S3 oil leak repair:

• Oil leak locating spray: Part number G 001 900 A1 (or equivalent powder-based oil leak detector)
• Pan head bolt w/ multi-point drive, self-locking: Part number N 107 443 04 (for Repair Option 1)
• Transmission: See ETKA (for Repair Option 2, order to VIN)
• Fasteners, Bolts, Nuts and Screws: As needed per the Repair Manual (See ETKA/ELSA)
