Symptoms

Owners of affected Audi Q5 and SQ5 vehicles may notice that after exiting the vehicle and closing the door, pressing the touch sensor on the exterior door handle results in one of the following conditions:

• The doors lock, but only after a significant delay.
• The doors lock only after several attempts are made.
• The doors will not lock at all using the touch sensor.

Conversely, the unlock function of the door handle sensor on the inside of the door handle usually functions normally and without error. The central locking system, when operated with the key remote, also remains fully functional for both locking and unlocking.

Diagnosis

During a workshop visit, technicians can easily reproduce this error sequence. The issue can occur on any of the four doors and is observed when any of the vehicle's remotes are in use and within proper range. Importantly, there are no relevant Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the Comfort System Central Control Module (Da 0046, BCM 2) related to this specific problem. However, checking the measuring values during diagnosis will clearly confirm an inoperative or delayed response in the lock command.

Technical Background

Audi has identified the root cause of this problem as an error in the door handle trim conductivity. This conductivity issue prevents the touch sensor from functioning correctly, leading to the delayed or failed locking response.

Repair Procedure Summary

If the symptoms align with those described in TSB 57 22 94 2067241/2 and diagnostic measuring values confirm an inoperative or delayed response in the lock command, the repair involves a straightforward two-step process:

1. The technician will remove the painted door handle trim plate from the affected door handle.
2. If the lock function then works properly without the trim plate installed, the door handle trim plate will be replaced.

This procedure effectively addresses the conductivity issue by replacing the faulty component.
