Symptoms

Owners of certain 2021-2022 Audi vehicles equipped with the MIB3 infotainment system may experience a frustrating issue where their personalized settings are sporadically lost. The specific symptoms reported include:

• "Last destinations, favorites, home/work addresses, tile arrangement, and user-defined buttons, including on the HVAC screen are sporadically lost."

This means that navigation history, saved locations, preferred screen layouts, and custom climate control buttons may disappear without warning. The issue is often intermittent, making it difficult to reproduce consistently at a dealership.

Technical Background

Audi has identified that the Audi MIB3 data loss is caused by a software bug within the MIB3 system. This bug can lead to the loss of user data during the system's boot-up process. While the system is designed to retain these settings, the flaw prevents them from being loaded correctly at times.

Workaround

Audi has provided a temporary workaround for affected vehicles while a permanent software solution is being developed. As of calendar week 50/21, all affected vehicles have been migrated to a new connect backend that supports "Personalization 2.0".

To utilize this workaround, ensure that the customer is logged into their myAudi account and that privacy settings are not active. With the customer logged in, the vehicle will store favorites and other user-specific settings on the myAudi backend system. If the MMI system experiences a loss of favorites or other settings, they should be recovered from the backend a short while after the MMI system is turned on and establishes its connection to the myAudi backend.

What Owners Should Know

Audi is actively working on a permanent software solution for the Audi MIB3 data loss issue, with an expected availability in the first quarter of 2023. At this time, no physical repairs are necessary for this condition. This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is informational only and is not applicable to any Audi warranty claims. Dealers are advised to create a PSS (Pending Service Solutions) record for affected customers.
