2021-2022 Audi Models Luggage Lid Not Closing

Symptoms

Owners of 2021-2022 Audi models may experience an issue where the automatic luggage compartment lid fails to close when attempting to use the buttons located in the luggage compartment lid trim. This can be a source of confusion, as the system appears to malfunction.

When this condition occurs, the red LED on the vehicle's remote key will flash twice. This flashing LED is a signal that the "key inside vehicle" recognition system has been activated, indicating that the vehicle has detected the key's presence too close to or inside the luggage compartment.

Why the luggage lid won't close

Audi's automatic luggage compartment lid system incorporates specific safety requirements to prevent accidental closure when the key is detected inside the vehicle or too close to the closing area. There are two primary ways to close the lid using the buttons on the trim:

When the "key inside vehicle" recognition is triggered, the automatic luggage compartment lid will not close as a safety measure. The remote key's red LED will flash twice to confirm this detection. After a brief reset period, the "key inside vehicle" recognition will deactivate, allowing the lid to be closed normally. Repeatedly pressing either button (1) or (2) while the "key inside vehicle" recognition is active will extend this reset period.

As a general guideline, to ensure the lock button (2) functions correctly without triggering the safety system, the person operating the button should maintain a distance of approximately 12 inches from the vehicle.
