2025 Audi A5/Q5 Rear Lid Stops at 70% TSB 2079016/1

Symptoms

Owners of affected 2025 Audi models may observe that the power rear lid opens only partially, stopping at approximately 70% of its full travel. This can occur whether the rear lid is opened manually or via the sensor-controlled mechanism. Other related complaints include the rear lid not opening at all, closing with incorrect operation sequence, or a warning tone sounding without cause.

Audi's Technical Service Bulletin 2079016/1 identifies the root cause of the 2025 Audi A5 rear lid stops issue as a possible deviation in the data string within control unit 0046. This deviation can lead to incorrect operation of the rear lid mechanism. An optimized software solution has been implemented in production vehicles from week 42/2025 onwards to prevent this issue.

Important Warnings

NOTICE: It is essential not to hinder or stop the movement of the rear lid under any circumstances during the initialization process. Doing so will interrupt the procedure and require it to be restarted.

CAUTION: Anti-trapping protection is NOT active for the entire duration of the initialization process. Ensure there is no risk of trapping yourself or other people at any time while performing the steps.

Repair Procedure Summary

1. Prepare the Rear Lid: Open the rear lid approximately halfway. This allows easy access to both the electric rear lid lock actuation buttons, located on the inside (Figure 3, item 3) and on the outside (Figure 2).
2. Simultaneous Button Press: Press and hold both the electric rear lid lock actuation button on the outside and the electric rear lid lock actuation button on the inside simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. An audible signal will confirm successful activation.
3. Close and Wait: Close the rear lid completely and wait for 2 seconds.
4. Cycle the Rear Lid: Open and then close the rear lid three times consecutively. During this step, use only the two buttons (inside and outside, as shown in Figure 3, item 3). It is crucial to ensure that the rear lid reaches its full open and closed end positions each time.

Once these steps are completed, the initialization process is finished.
