Symptoms of a Rattling Virtual Cockpit

Owners of certain 2021-2025 Audi models may notice a distinct "noise (rattling) from inside Audi virtual cockpit." This rattling sound is often more pronounced when the vehicle is stationary and tends to occur at high temperatures. Workshop findings confirm that the noise is directly linked to high temperatures within the dash panel. Technicians have observed that the rattling noise disappears immediately when the connector for the Audi virtual cockpit is unplugged, indicating the source is internal to the unit.

Understanding the Cause

The Audi virtual cockpit rattling noise is a result of high temperatures within the dash panel. When the vehicle is exposed to direct sunlight or operating for extended periods, temperatures inside the dash panel and the Audi virtual cockpit can rise significantly. To prevent overheating, a fan inside the Audi virtual cockpit activates once a temperature of 70 °C (158 °F) is reached. The rattling occurs because an incorrectly routed cable comes into contact with the blades of this cooling fan.

Audi implemented an optimized routing of the connecting cable for the fan in the Audi virtual cockpit on January 13, 2025. This production solution aims to prevent the cable from interfering with the fan in newly manufactured units.

To determine if Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2076683/1 applies to your vehicle, a technician must check the production date of your Audi virtual cockpit. This is done using a workshop tester via self-diagnosis. The diagnostic path is: Self-diagnosis → Diagnostic address: 0017 - Instrument cluster → Identification → Expanded identification → FAZIT identification → Production date.

If the virtual cockpit's production date is before January 13, 2025, then this TSB is applicable, and the unit may require replacement to resolve the Audi virtual cockpit rattling noise.

Repair Procedure Summary
