*Subject: Reporting Tesla Motors' Exposure of Sensitive VIN Information** To Whom It May Concern, I am a security researcher and ethical hacker who has identified and reported a significant data leak involving Tesla Motors. Specifically, Tesla is leaking sensitive Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) of its customers through an API URL. The URL in question is: [XXX] ` This exposure allows anyone to pull detailed recall reports of these vehicles from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website: [XXX] ` Furthermore, these VINs can be used to search for private documents shared on social media, posing a serious privacy and security risk. Many vehicle owners intentionally redact or block their VINs in public documents to prevent misuse. Despite the clear implications, Bugcrowd analysts have closed my report as "not applicable" and claimed that it has "no security impact." This decision disregards the privacy concerns of Tesla EV owners, whose VINs are readily available to malicious actors. My attempts to bring this issue to light were further suppressed when Tesla removed my post from the Cybertruck Facebook group and blocked me from the platform. Given Tesla's notorious history of ignoring such violations, I am seeking intervention from relevant authorities to take appropriate action against both Tesla Motors and the Bugcrowd platform for their negligence in handling this critical security issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11603569July 20, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The incident occurred on [XXX] at [XXX] PST in Sammamish WA, where my car (2024 Tesla Model Y) incorrectly enabled Automatic Emergency Braking , and unexpectedly applied brakes when I was traveling at 45 mph on an empty road. The sudden braking reduced the speed of my car to less than 15 mph in a span of 2 seconds and eventually brought the car to a halt . I strongly believe this was done in error due to a system malfunction, as there was no potential cause of a collision given there were no incoming vehicles or any vehicles ahead. There were also no pedestrians or any objects such as animals or wildlife on the road. One this incident occurred, an alert with code “APP_W050” appeared on the car screen. (photo attached). Due to this abrupt unexpected braking, It caused a significant treat to my safety, as I could have potentially lost control of the car and slid off the road into a ditch or another vehicle traveling behind me could have potentially collided with me in the rear end. I was on [XXX] heading towards Chicago and following the traffic. I started changing the line to pass the vehicle in front of me and suddenly my tesla completely lost control and started drifting to the sides. I released the accelerator right away but it made it even worse. It seems that acceleration continues to happen that’s what made car to drift. Eventually car slowed down and I was able to make it to my line. I don’t understand why line assistance didn’t work to keep the vehicle stable, why after releasing accelerator the vehicle continued to gain the speed. It was sunny day and dry road. No foreign objects on the highway. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My Tesla (dark gray) was t-boned by a 2015 Hyundai (white) while it was passing the intersection on green light. The Hyundai hit my car when it tried to turn right on red light. My car was running at around 25 mph at that moment. About one second before the accident, my car's front collision warning went off, but everything was too late; the Hyundai's left front bumper hit my car. The crash did not cause any serious damage on the white Hyundai; as you can see in the photo, it barely got any dents, except its left front headlight cap was broken. The incident created small dents on my car's right fender panel and front right door. However, even though my car's front right wheel was not directly hit, it fell off during the accident. If my car was running at a high speed, it would have rolled over and caused serious injuries.

During my trip, traveling at speeds ranging from ~30 to ~75mph my car suddenly and with no advance warning braked to a full stop, four separate times. I was not using cruise control or any driver assisted features. There were no obstacles in the road. I did not get in an accident because there were no other cars near me on the two different roads I traveled on.

This is my fifth Tesla, so i.am very familiar with the Self Driving feature which is mostly good. However, recently I got a Model Y and with in 24 hours I was rear-ended on the freeway! I had the car in Full Self Driving mode (FSD)! For some reason it just braked hard in the middle of my driving however, traffic was backing up. I injured my lower back and neck and I'm now having to go in for therapy and schedule a CAT scan. Luckily the person behind me was fine. After the incident I downloaded the zip disk which records incidences. The car had documented pre and post accident! But the actual incident there is no record... almost like it got wiped out!?!

My family and I were on [XXX] heading toward Sacramento when the Tesla Y suddenly braked. We were using autopilot and going around 70 mph. The car was trying to pull a full stop in the middle of the freeway! I quickly disengaged the autopilot and stepped on the pedal to speed back up. I'm guessing the Tesla saw a hazard on the road and put on the brakes. The problem is there were no hazards. Our safety was put at risk because we could've been reared, and it could've caused a pileup. Luckily, it was early Sunday, and there weren't a lot of cars on the road. We stopped using the autopilot immediately, so the problem has not been reproduced. We have an appointment with Tesla in four days. I will be reporting the incident to them. I'll ask for an inspection then. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms prior to the sudden braking. It was a very jarring experience. I have my kids in the back seats. The Tesla accelerated by itself while I am driving in a heavy traffic. To avoid hitting the front car, I braked several times, which didn’t work at all. It still accelerated, instinctively I steered wheels to the right front and hit a small hill. Airbags are out. I struggled to get off the car and shouted for help. 911 was called and emergency ambulance took me to ER. Luckily I am alive, it could be much worse that I would tremble when thinking of that crash scene again. This happened on [XXX]. I am waiting for the report from the police and the next steps from Tesla Insurance. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The Indicator for the park break is the word "PARK" and not the symbol for the parking break ((P)). This is dangerous because the word "PARK" is ambiguous and could mean the vehicle is shifted into park (without the park break engaged) OR the park break is applied. In fact my spouse was parking the vehicle on a hill and not engaging the park break. He insisted that there was no difference between the two. There is a huge difference. Only after engaging the park break and listening for the rear breaks to electronically engage was I able to convince him that "PARK" was actually ((P)) and that the park break was NOT applied until the button was pressed and the word "PARK" appeared. Please use the correct ((P)) symbol to indicate the parking break is engaged and to clearly differentiate it from the vehicle being shifted into Park.

Turn signals turn off prematurely. Disengaging the cruise control or entering a turn lane after the turn signal is activated appear to turn off the turn signal before reaching the intersection or turn. This occurs whether I use the half or full press on the turn signal stalk. To be honest I'm not sure the difference between the half and full press, since they appear to function the same. This is dangerous for 2 reasons. 1.) Vehicles waiting at the intersection may believe I have changed my mind on turn and take actions on the belief that I am not going to turn. 2.) It creates a distraction as I need to react and take further action to re-activate the turn signal rather than focusing on traffic and the turn.

The contact owns a 2024 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing abnormal battery drainage and was not operating based on the designed mileage. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was overheating, and the failure persisted after the vehicle had been parked and turned off. The contact also stated that the front passenger's side window would roll down unintentionally while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a Tesla Service Center several times; however, the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6.

On Wednesday, [XXX], 2024 between 1015-1045 am while traveling on [XXX] , my vehicle unexpectedly accelerated while entering the left turn lane. On ramp to [XXX] northbound, Monroe county, Pennsylvania. At the time I was giving steering input and had also applied the windshield wiper system. This happened a second time while approaching the intersection of [XXX] northbound. While taking my foot off the accelerator pedal to allow for regenerative braking and using the windshield wipers the vehicle accelerated at a quick rate. In both instances I had to apply the brake to slow it down. I noticed Tesla on that date. Tesla related that someone would contact me. No co text has been made as of the submission of this report. While driving on highway at around 60,65 miles speed, I saw a warning that fronk is open. I dont think I pressed open fronk while driving and not sure even its possible while driving. Fronk wasnt open when I started the drive for sure else would have noticed the warning. Warning actually started after driving for 5,6 miles. I was on highway and took me some time to find a safe place to get on the shoulder and when I checked fronk was actually open. Im not sure how much an issue it was or if Tesla fronk can get loose and fly or hit the windscreen and cause visiblity issue or accident involving other vehilces but this was something which was a big concern for a moment while driving at high speed.

Front motor of 3-week-old Tesla Model Y became disabled while driving on a highway at 65 mph. This meant the car also lost power steering, traction control, and ABS braking. Car was limited to top speed of around 40 mph on a busy highway with very little room to pull over. Car was difficult to steer and braking was greatly reduced. There was no advanced warning of this. Was finally able to pull over, exit and reenter the vehicle, which temporarily corrected the problem. However, when the car was started the next day, the front motor was disabled again, but resolved when the car was restarted. The car was not driven again until Tesla service center was contacted and car was taken in for repair. On the way to the service center, the issue occurred again. The alerts included “Front motor disabled - OK to drive. Vehicle power may be limited” The vehicle is not safe to drive since this is happening while traveling at high speeds. Tesla service has not addressed the issue or tried to diagnose the cause yet in spite of the car being at their service center for over a week.

I was driving down the highway with my wife and baby at about 65 mph. I was using regular cruise control with no one in front of me when all of a sudden, the car braked extremely hard. Luckily, the car behind me was far enough back to switch lanes and pass me. If it was closer, this could have resulted in a highway accident. The car stopped braking maybe around 30 or 40 mph. I may have it recorded in the Tesla camera system since I pressed the save button approx 4 min after it happened. I also scheduled a service call with Tesla that will hopefully happen on may 7th

I purchased my Model Y with the Tow Package. We used the trailer for the first time. There was no 12v auxiliary power to the trailer. The 7 pin trailer connection is incomplete. Post purchase, we found Tesla purposely disconnected the 12v accessory power pin when they switched low voltage systems in the 2022 model year rather than add the necessary power reduction part to send 12v power to the trailer. This is a serious safety issue because the 12v accessory pin on the trailer connection is the used to maintain charge on emergency trailer surge braking systems (engages trailer breaks if the trailer disconnects from vehicle). This known safety hazard was not conspicuously communicated before purchase. A notice does not appear on the Model Y Tow package page (attached). This is very uncommon and unexpected for manufacturer installed tow packages with 7 pin connectors to leave the 12v auxiliary power disconnected.
