Safety Complaint: Windshield Wipers Would Not Turn Off – Mercedes-Benz In October 2025, at approximately 12,000 miles, the windshield wipers on my Mercedes-Benz malfunctioned and would not turn off using the vehicle’s controls. The issue occurred both while driving and while the vehicle was stationary, under normal weather conditions. The malfunction prevented me from maintaining normal control of the windshield wiper system. The wipers continued operating despite my attempts to turn them off. Their constant movement distracted me while driving and obstructed my view or affected visibility. I experienced a near-miss situation in connection with this malfunction, creating a serious safety concern for me and potentially other road users. A warning light or message was ot sometimes present in connection with the issue or appeared beforehand. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by an independent repair facility, and the malfunction was confirmed by a service center. The entire steering column was replaced due to electrical wiring issue. I am concerned that this malfunction may reflect a defect in the windshield wiper control system or related vehicle electronics (steering column). The inability to turn off the windshield wipers, combined with the resulting visibility and distraction concerns and the crash or near-miss situation, presents a potential vehicle safety defect. I am requesting that NHTSA document this incident, review similar complaints involving Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and determine whether further investigation or corrective action is warranted.

Subject: Recurring SRS Warning and Driver’s Knee-Airbag Fault — 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 I am reporting a potential safety concern involving the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in my 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220. The vehicle developed a recurring SRS/airbag warning. Mercedes-Benz identified diagnostic trouble code B000411, described as a driver’s knee-airbag squib short circuit to ground. During the initial visit, the dealership inspected and reinstalled the component. The warning subsequently returned. The dealership later recommended replacing the driver’s knee airbag, with an estimated repair cost of approximately $3,600. I am concerned that a recurring fault in the airbag system could affect the vehicle’s ability to provide intended occupant protection in a crash. I have contacted Mercedes-Benz Customer Care and filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this reported safety issue and determine whether it may indicate a safety-related defect affecting other vehicles. Vehicle: 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 Diagnostic code: B000411 Repair estimate: Approximately $3,600 I can provide dealership records, diagnostic information, and correspondence upon request.

I am filing a vehicle safety complaint regarding my 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 equipped with the M260 engine. While driving on a public street, my vehicle experienced an unexpected loss of engine power and stalling. The engine also exhibited significant shaking, misfiring, and activation of the check-engine warning light. The unexpected loss of power while driving created a dangerous situation because I could have been involved in a collision with another vehicle. I was extremely concerned for my safety and the safety of other motorists. My mechanic subsequently diagnosed the vehicle with a cylinder head failure and advised me that continuing to drive could be dangerous. Because of the seriousness of the mechanical problem and the safety risks involved, I had the vehicle repaired. The repair cost approximately $3,800 and was performed by an independent mechanic using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts purchased from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. I later learned that Mercedes-Benz had reportedly extended warranty coverage for certain M260 engine cylinder head failures to 15 years or 150,000 miles. I am concerned that other Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the same engine could experience similar failures, potentially resulting in unexpected engine stalling or loss of power while driving. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this cylinder head failure represents a broader vehicle safety defect that could endanger drivers, passengers, and other motorists.

I recently bought a used 2022 Mercedes A220 and brought it to a dealership on 09/18 to address a recall notice; I was informed the recall remains pending and cannot be resolved until around November 2026. The following day, 09/19, I attempted to refuel for the first time and found the fuel door stuck shut after one week and four days of ownership.

My 2021 Mercedes-Benz A220 (M260 2.0L engine) triggered diagnostic fault code P052E, indicating a failure of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) regulator valve / intake line assembly. Failure of this valve disrupts crankcase pressure, causing unmetered air intake, lean-running conditions, and engine hesitation/stalling risks. Mercedes-Benz issued a 15-year/150,000-mile extended warranty campaign for this exact PCV failure on M274 engines, but has excluded M260 engines despite identical failure modes. The manufacturer has not remedied this known design defect, creating potential drivability and engine pressure hazards.

As of June of 2026 i witnessed my thermostat gauge going from cold to Hot in a back and forth motion. This rising in temperature on the thermostat gauge has happened during acceleration above 45mph, sitting idle with AC on, and while sitting idle after only about 10 mins of car being powered on and in motion. Because the vehicle is under warranty i believed parts would be replaced with new parts but as of today August 11th, 2026, the problem continues and has now been reaching the hot meter on the thermostat gauge. I have sent my car back to my dealer 3 times in a month in a half with the same issue happening repeatedly. Following the second repair period my car stopped unlocking on and off for the days following and now that has been upgraded to a recall issue which was not fixed or truly given any attention at all. This has put me in a hardship position and has not been attended to properly from the first repair. I have In real time recordings of this issue as evidence and am needing some assistance on this matter. I also have the invoices of both repairs which show that no repair was done to the actual affected areas of my vehicle instead they worked on parts that were not of concern.

While I was driving the vehicle on the freeway there a single popping noise that sounded to be below the vehicle. Immediately after there was a big trail of white smoke coming from beneath the vehicle. When I was able to pull over and got out of the vehicle there were flames visible and the fire quickly grew.

While stopped at a red light, my 2020 Mercedes-Benz A220 unexpectedly shut off and shifted into Neutral without warning. All warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and a message instructed me to release the brake and restart the engine. The vehicle restarted, but this has now happened twice. The check engine light remains illuminated most of the time. This unexpected engine shutdown creates a safety hazard because the vehicle loses power unexpectedly while in traffic. If this were to occur while crossing an intersection or during other traffic conditions, it could increase the risk of a crash. In March 2023, an independent repair facility diagnosed all four fuel injectors as leaking fuel through the electrical connections, causing circuit problems, and warned there was a fuel leak. All four fuel injectors were replaced. In October 2023, a Mercedes-Benz dealership diagnosed rough idle, misfires, lean mixture fault codes, and excessive leakage in cylinder #4. Mercedes replaced the entire cylinder head under warranty. The vehicle is now experiencing unexpected engine stalls despite these previous repairs. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the repeated engine-related failures and unexpected stalling present a potential safety concern. I am aware of a Mercedes recall involving fuel system components on certain A220 vehicles. My VIN is not included, but I am reporting this because my vehicle has experienced repeated fuel- and engine-related failures and now unexpectedly stalls.

I was driving home from work down the hwy, when the sun visor shade fell down and hit me in the head and covered my face, temporarily blinding me, like a blanket was pulled over my face. It's very difficult to see the road or other drivers when you are blinded at 70mph! Car only had 15,500 miles on it...

While driving at highway speed, I experienced a sudden loss of engine power with no warning. This created an immediate safety hazard for myself and other drivers. The vehicle was diagnosed by Mercedes-Benz of Georgetown as requiring a full engine replacement (~$19,000). This failure is consistent with a known defect in the 2.0L M260 engine used in the 2020 A220, involving premature wear of exhaust valve seat rings and valve guides, causing leaking valves, loss of compression, and catastrophic engine failure. Mercedes-Benz of Georgetown performed a warranty cylinder head replacement on this same engine just five months prior (12/09/2025). The vehicle has been serviced primarily at the authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, driven under 10,000 miles/year, and purchased new in January 2020. Mercedes-Benz USA has acknowledged the defect by covering engine parts but is refusing to cover $6,733.38 in labor costs, leaving me with a $5,000 out-of-pocket expense for their manufacturing defect. this is a formal notification regarding my vehicle that I purchased at House Of Imports on February 27, 2021. A Mercedes Benz A-Class 220 year 2021, VIN #W1K3G4EB7MJ290124. Shortly after purchase I experienced several safety concerns about the vehicle. The first and main concern are while driving vehicle the accelerator stopped working ,vehicle would not move forward or back which put my life in a dangerous situation due to this isssue that occured while on a main street with incoming traffic. Immediately I made an a report with dealer and car was taken to dealership ( House Of Imports) . The advisor told me it was a software issue and they updated the system which they said vehicle will not have that issue again. Several things were replaced which ai have the repair documents. The second issue with the vehicle was about 3 weeks from this date today I turned on my vehicle to exit my garage I put the gear on Reverse and it did not move , I tried to move thr car forward meaning putting the gear on Drive and still nothing happened, after several attempts nothing happened. I decided to turn off the vehicle and a few hours later turned it back on and I was able to drive. The third issue was just last week January 19, 2026 I turned on vehicle to exit my garage and again the car would not move back or forward. I tried changing gears multiple times for about 20 minutes but car never moved it seemed completely stuck. The following day I had to get the car towed to House Of Imports, and it has been at dealer since then. Due to this situation I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle, I don't consider the vehicle is in proper safety functioning condition and it's not corresponding to the value paid. For this matter I respectfully request an immediate solution.

- #11701972November 29, 2025ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, SERVICE BRAKES
Vehicle: 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 VIN: [XXX] Dealer: Mercedes-Benz of Walnut Creek (Walnut Creek, CA) I am reporting multiple safety defects involving federally regulated systems. The vehicle has repeatedly activated emergency braking at freeway speeds without reason, posing a significant risk of collision. The brake assist warning appears frequently, and both the front and rear proximity/collision sensors display a full red warning state with continuous audible alerts. These alerts cannot be cleared without manually disabling the safety system each time the vehicle is started. One of the sensors physically detached from the vehicle. Backup and parking assist features do not function correctly, and the vehicle repeatedly shows malfunction warnings. The dealer verbally stated that a “manufacturer-covered engine repair” was needed, but would not disclose the nature of the repair or whether it relates to these safety issues. After two weeks in their possession, the dealer refused to provide written documentation of any diagnostics or repairs performed. They attempted to return the vehicle without confirming whether it is safe to operate and threatened storage fees when I requested written confirmation. These issues involve systems covered under FMVSS 101, 111, 126, and 135, including electronic stability control, braking, rear visibility, and driver-interface warnings. The failures pose a clear safety risk to the driver and other motorists. I am requesting NHTSA review these defects for potential investigation or recall.
