Toyota has announced an equipment safety recall impacting approximately 4,100 curtain shield airbag (CSA) service parts. These parts, manufactured between December 2021 and December 2025, may have been installed as replacements in certain 2014-2021 Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab, and 2016-2023 Tacoma models. The issue could prevent proper airbag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Affected Parts and Vehicles

Toyota's recall specifically targets curtain shield airbag service parts that were produced over a four-year period, from December 2021 through December 2025. Approximately 4,100 of these replacement parts are involved in the U.S. market. These CSA assemblies are designed to deploy from the roof side rails during certain types of collisions, providing crucial occupant protection.

The concern arises because these potentially faulty service parts may have been installed in a range of Toyota truck models. Similarly, owners of 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma vehicles known to have had a replacement part installed after May 2024 will also be contacted. Toyota expects to send initial notifications by late-September 2026.

Even if an owner does not receive a direct notification, Toyota advises that Tundra CrewMax, Double Cab, and Tacoma owners from the specified model years who believe one or both curtain shield airbags were replaced due to a collision, malfunction, or other issue after the noted dates should bring their vehicle to a Toyota dealer for inspection. Dealers will also be informed and tasked with identifying any such parts sold to body shops or collision repair facilities, and any vehicles that may have had a replacement part installed.

Once at a dealership, technicians will inspect the vehicle for the affected replacement parts. Any identified faulty curtain shield airbag assemblies will be replaced at no cost to the owner.
