2027 Toyota Sequoia Gains Trailhunter Package, Tech Upgrades

Toyota has revealed comprehensive enhancements for the 2027 Sequoia, aiming to provide a more modern appearance, advanced technology, and increased capability. These updates are intended to cater to active families and outdoor enthusiasts, reinforcing the SUV's versatility for both daily driving and exploration. The 2027 Toyota Sequoia updates reflect evolving customer lifestyles.

Developed by Toyota Motor North America teams, including CALTY Design Research, the updated Sequoia's design emphasizes a modern and functional character. The full details, specifications, and pricing for the 2027 Sequoia updates will be announced in Fall 2026, closer to the start of production.

Design and Off-Road Capability

The 2027 Sequoia features a sharper, more assertive exterior design. The front end now presents a more refined yet rugged appearance, with updated grille and bumper treatments that offer a modern take on Toyota's truck identity. Rectangular fog lights are integrated into the bumper for improved functionality, and the lower bumper has been enhanced to project a capable stance.

A significant addition is the newly available Trailhunter package, built on the SR5 grade. This package equips the Sequoia for off-road travel with Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires and an Old Man Emu upgraded suspension. It also includes front recovery hooks and additional underbody protection. For improved control and traction in demanding conditions, the Trailhunter package incorporates Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and a locking rear differential. Unique bronze-colored wheels and exclusive badges complement its robust features.

Enhanced Technology Features

The 2027 Toyota Sequoia receives the latest version of the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, developed in North America. This system integrates AT&T 5G network connectivity and features a user-friendly, smartphone-like design with customizable widgets on its new home screen. A standard 14-inch screen provides a larger digital display, and embedded Voice Assistant functions offer faster responses to "Hey Toyota" prompts.

Another new standard feature is a built-in Drive Recorder Dash Cam, which can capture 20-second clips of manual or triggered events using the vehicle's exterior cameras. The 2027 Sequoia also offers enhanced Digital Key functionality, allowing drivers to manage vehicle access (locking, unlocking, starting, operating) through the Toyota app or compatible smart device digital wallet apps like Apple, Google, or Samsung. This feature allows sharing permissions with up to five additional drivers and can provide access via NFC even if the device's battery is low. Furthermore, a 2.4kW inverter is available, providing convenient power for various outdoor and daily needs.

Safety and Grade Options

Safety is a key focus for the 2027 Sequoia, which comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0). This updated suite of active safety and convenience features includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), and Proactive Driving Assist (PDA).

Exterior lighting has also been improved, with an upgraded grille-mounted LED light bar offering increased brightness and available RIGID fog lights for better visibility in low-light conditions. The available front recovery hooks add to its off-road functionality and rugged look. The 2027 Sequoia will be available in multiple grades, including SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone, catering to a wide range of SUV buyers seeking daily utility, comfort, off-road performance, and family use.
