Subaru of America, Inc. announced that its all-electric Subaru Trailseeker has been named to the 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list. This recognition comes in the vehicle's first year on the market, highlighting its immediate impact in the electric vehicle segment. The Trailseeker was noted for its overall performance and efficiency.

Recognition and Performance

WardsAuto judges evaluated 26 powertrains, including both new and significantly updated models, based on criteria such as power, torque, refinement, efficiency, and innovation. The Subaru Trailseeker received praise for its smooth operation, available power, acceleration, and impressive range capabilities. Judges specifically highlighted its ability to deliver strong performance while maintaining practical real-world driving range.

Robin Warner, a WardsAuto Judge and the program manager for the 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems, commented on the Trailseeker's unexpected power. He noted its 375 combined horsepower and immediate electric powertrain response, which provide substantial acceleration. Warner also observed that the vehicle's range estimates proved accurate during interstate driving, and its pricing was considered reasonable given its capabilities.

Key Features and Specifications

The Subaru Trailseeker, launched in early 2026, is designed as a rugged, all-electric SUV. It comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, enhancing its capability across various terrains. Power is delivered by dual electric motors, producing a combined 375 horsepower, and the vehicle offers 8.5 inches of ground clearance.

Equipped with a 74.7-kWh high-capacity lithium-ion battery, the Trailseeker provides an estimated range of up to 281 miles on a single charge. All trim levels include a 14-inch Subaru Multimedia System as standard equipment, integrating key vehicle functions and entertainment options.

Charging and Availability

The 2027 Subaru Trailseeker features a standard North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port, providing access to over 25,000 charging stations across North America. This allows for convenient recharging on the go. The vehicle supports DC-fast charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes at speeds up to 150 kW.

To optimize charging performance in colder conditions, the Trailseeker includes an onboard battery preconditioning system. This system can be activated by navigating to a charging destination or manually via the touchscreen controls, enabling the battery to charge efficiently in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. The 2027 Subaru Trailseeker is currently available for purchase, with a starting MSRP of $39,995.

This recognition for the Subaru Trailseeker award underscores Subaru's entry into the electric SUV market with a competitive offering. For consumers considering an all-electric vehicle that combines rugged capability with efficient performance, the Trailseeker presents a notable option, validated by industry experts.
