The Nissan Formula E Team is returning to Tokyo for Rounds 14 and 15 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. These races mark the series' inaugural night event in the Japanese capital, presenting a critical opportunity for the team to gain points in the championship standings. The event is particularly significant as it is Nissan's home race and the penultimate weekend of Season 12.
Tokyo E-Prix Circuit and Format
The Tokyo E-Prix will take place on the 2.582-kilometer, 18-turn Tokyo Street Circuit, which surrounds the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre, also known as Tokyo Big Sight. This anti-clockwise layout combines long straights with tight technical sections and fast, flowing sequences, making it one of the more challenging tracks on the Formula E calendar.
Saturday's Round 14 race will incorporate Formula E's mandatory Pit Boost pit stop, adding a strategic element for teams and drivers. Sunday's Round 15 E-Prix will follow the traditional race format, ensuring two distinct strategic challenges over the weekend.
Championship Stakes and Special Livery
The Nissan Formula E Team aims to improve its performance after a challenging double-header in Shanghai. Driver Oliver Rowland has a strong record on the Tokyo circuit, having secured one victory and two podium finishes in the three previous races held there. He has also started every E-Prix in Tokyo from pole position.
Rowland is currently third in the Drivers' World Championship standings, with six podium finishes and one victory this season, remaining in contention for the title. This weekend also marks the Nissan Formula E Team's final home race of the GEN3 era. To commemorate the occasion, the team will compete with a special one-off NISMO livery. This design features a combination of grey and black with NISMO's signature red accents, echoing the color palette of Nissan's NISMO performance road cars. The livery also retains the team's cherry blossom motif, blending NISMO branding with the home E-Prix celebration. Both Rowland and his teammate Norman Nato will wear bespoke race suits matching the special Tokyo livery throughout the weekend.
Fan Engagement and Event Schedule
Recognized as Formula E's top fan-favorite team in the championship's annual survey, the Nissan Formula E Team anticipates significant support at its home event. A sold-out Nissan grandstand overlooking the pit straight will showcase this backing during Saturday's race.
