Lexus Unveils Redesigned 2026 ES with EV and Hybrid AWD Options

The 2026 Lexus ES sedan has been fully redesigned, marking the eighth generation of the model. This update introduces new all-electric powertrain options and, for the first time, an all-wheel drive system for the hybrid variant. The 2026 Lexus ES redesign aims to enhance both performance and passenger comfort.

New Powertrain Options and Platform

The core of the 2026 Lexus ES redesign is a revised TNGA-K platform, which now supports both hybrid electric (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) powertrains. This multi-pathway approach allows for diverse powertrain configurations within the same vehicle architecture. The platform also features increased rigidity in the front, floor, and rear, contributing to reduced body vibrations and improved steering response.

The 2026 Lexus ES 350h hybrid model receives an updated sixth-generation 2.5-liter hybrid system. This system includes an additional electric motor that powers the rear axle, enabling an all-wheel drive option for the ES hybrid for the first time. The integrated eAxle combines the power control unit and transaxle into a compact unit.

The ES lineup now includes two all-electric models: the 2026 Lexus ES 350e front-wheel drive and the ES 500e all-wheel drive. The ES 350e FWD, equipped with standard 19-inch wheels, offers an EPA-estimated range of 307 miles. The ES 500e AWD, also with standard 19-inch wheels, provides an EPA-estimated range of 276 miles. Both BEV models feature a NACS charging port, support DC fast charging (achieving 10% to 80% battery capacity in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions), and include an 11-kW on-board AC charger for Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging.

Expanded Interior and Executive Comfort

The 2026 Lexus ES redesign brings significant changes to the cabin, benefiting from the re-engineered TNGA-K platform. The vehicle is 6.5 inches longer overall, with a 3.1-inch longer wheelbase, resulting in a more spacious interior, particularly for rear-seat passengers. The interior design, dubbed 'Clean Tech x Elegance,' features slimmed front seatbacks and trim, along with lowered front and side window frames to increase glass area, creating a more open and airy feel.

For enhanced luxury, the 2026 Lexus ES introduces an Executive Package, available on the ES 350e FWD Luxury model. This package elevates the rear cabin experience with features such as reclining rear seats, including a passenger-side ottoman, rear outboard massaging seats, heated and ventilated rear seats, a power rear window sunshade, and multi-zone climate controls.

Advanced Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2026 Lexus ES incorporates the newest Lexus Interface multimedia system, designed to improve the user experience. Drivers will find a 12.3-inch Multi-Information Display with an onscreen home button and dynamic split-screen capabilities. The native Voice Assistant has been updated for quicker response times, and native map functionality is integrated directly into the digital gauge cluster for convenient navigation.

A prominent 14-inch touchscreen display serves as the central hub for the system. It includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, along with simultaneous dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity. These features aim to provide seamless control and access to entertainment and communication on the go.
