Hyundai Motor Group, in collaboration with San Francisco's Exploratorium, has launched a new interactive science exhibition in Seoul. Titled "Have Fun with Science," the free event is hosted at Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul and will run from October 6 to December 15, 2026. This exhibition serves as a public preview for the Group's larger experiential science museum, which is scheduled to open in 2032.
Previewing a Future Museum
The "Have Fun with Science" exhibition is designed to gather public feedback, which will directly inform the development of content and operations for Hyundai Motor Group's upcoming science museum. This future museum is slated to open in 2032 within the Global Business Complex (GBC), a major development project located in Seoul's Gangnam Business District. The collaboration builds on a strategic partnership established between Hyundai Motor Group and the Exploratorium in April 2026.
The Exploratorium, founded in 1969 by physicist Frank Oppenheimer, is recognized for its pioneering hands-on approach to science education. It encourages visitors to interact directly with exhibits to understand scientific principles, a methodology that has influenced interactive science museums worldwide. This expertise is central to the partnership, as both organizations aim to inspire curiosity and foster science education.
Interactive Exhibits and Programs
Visitors to "Have Fun with Science" can explore fundamental scientific principles through 12 distinct hands-on exhibits. These displays cover themes such as movement, ecology, light, and sound. Notable exhibits include "Find Your Balance," which challenges visitors' sense of equilibrium; "Chain Reaction," demonstrating energy transfer; "Cooperation Game," promoting teamwork; "Wind-Carved Landscape," exploring geological formations; and "Future Proof," which encourages thought on future technologies and environmental issues.
Beyond the main exhibits, the exhibition offers three activity programs focused on electrical circuits and electronic devices. One such program, the "Scribbling Machine," allows participants to construct and operate a drawing device powered by rotational motion, blending engineering with artistic expression. All exhibits and activity programs are free for Hyundai Motorstudio members.
On the opening evening of October 6, a special event called "Spin the Night" was held for adult visitors, including members of science museum communities. This event featured unique experiences like "Science of Cocktails," where scientific explanations accompanied drink preparations, and a "Take Apart" program, allowing participants to disassemble everyday electronic devices.
Shaping Future Science Education
Hyundai Motor Group intends to involve various science and creative communities in Korea, expanding its network for collaborative development. The feedback collected from visitors, including comments and reactions, will be thoroughly analyzed to refine the content and operational strategies for the 2032 experiential science museum at GBC. This iterative process ensures the future museum will be responsive to public interest and educational needs.
Sungwon Jee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group Brand Experience, stated that the GBC museum aims to foster curiosity and establish a new foundation for science education. By sharing elements of the museum's development and actively listening to visitor input, the Group hopes to engage more people in hands-on science and creative exploration.
The "Hyundai Motor Group science exhibition" in Seoul highlights the company's broader engagement in cultural and educational initiatives. For current and prospective Kia owners, this project demonstrates the Group's investment in public enrichment, extending its influence beyond automotive manufacturing into areas like interactive learning and community development.
