Kia America has announced its highest September and third-quarter sales figures in the company's history for 2026. The automaker recorded 77,009 units sold in September and a total of 236,659 units for the third quarter, marking significant year-over-year increases. This performance puts Kia on track for a potential fourth consecutive annual sales record.

Strong Sales Performance Across the Board

Kia's September sales of 77,009 units represented an 18 percent increase over previous September highs. Retail sales also reached a new peak, with 70,429 units sold, up 19 percent compared to the prior September record. For the third quarter, total sales climbed to 236,659 units, an 8 percent gain over the previous record, while retail sales hit 221,664 units, a 9 percent increase.

A significant driver of this growth was the strong performance of Kia's electrified vehicle lineup. Hybrid model sales surged by 152 percent year-over-year, and total electrified models saw a 60 percent increase. Several key models contributed to the record-breaking results, with eight vehicles experiencing double-digit sales growth. The Seltos led with a 66 percent increase, followed by the Niro at 47 percent, the K4 at 43 percent, and the Telluride at 42 percent. Other strong performers included the Sorento (+37%), Carnival (+21%), K5 (+15%), and Sportage (+10%), contributing to Kia's 2026 sales growth.

Hybrid variants also saw substantial gains, notably the new Telluride HEV, which has been well-received. The Sorento HEV's sales increased by 112 percent, the Sportage HEV by 53 percent, and the Carnival HEV by 47 percent, further contributing to Kia's 2026 sales growth.

Industry Recognition and Safety Achievements

Beyond sales, Kia models received notable industry accolades. Green Car Journal recognized the all-electric 2027 Kia EV3 as the "Green Car of the Year®" and the 2026 Carnival Hybrid as the "Green Minivan of the Year®" in its annual awards.

In terms of safety, the 2027 Kia Telluride, specifically models built after June 2026, earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating, the 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+). This achievement brings Kia's total number of models with the 2026 TSP+ designation to five. The other models include the 2026 Kia K4, the 2026 EV9, the 2026 Sorento (for models built after September 2025), and the 2026 Sportage (for models built after May 2025).

Expanding Hybrid Offerings and Market Presence

Kia launched a new creative campaign in September titled "Hybrids That Move to a New Beat." This campaign highlights the efficiency and power of the brand's diverse range of hybrid SUVs and utility vehicles. Kia currently offers the second-largest lineup of hybrid vehicles in the automotive industry.

The hybrid lineup features models such as the 2027 Telluride, the long-running Sportage, and the Carnival MPV. This broad selection aims to provide hybrid options for a wide range of consumer needs and preferences, reinforcing Kia's presence in the electrified vehicle market.

These recent sales achievements, coupled with new model introductions and safety awards, indicate a strong market position for Kia. Consumers considering a new vehicle, particularly those interested in hybrid or electric options, may find Kia's expanding and recognized lineup a compelling choice.
